I missed this when it was posted. General James selected me as Outstanding Airman of the Year for 1976, forty years ago. I was privileged to spend a week with him for just about every occasion and played racketball with him as well. He was a great man and even knew my Father (The SMSGT in charge of public relations at Petersen Field). His passing in Jan 1978 was a shock as he had just retired from active duty. RIP General James.

I was in line for Airman of the Year back in ‘68.
