During these few weeks, he suddenly disappeared - turned out he'd gone to Oceanside and gotten drunk enough to get in trouble, so he got busted to Private.....making him "Private General James".
Major General James
I was assigned to the Air Force's Foreign Technology division. Rumint there said the alien bodies were kept in the basement of the HQ building. .

Be advised that the building is built on a slab. :)
LOL.
In early 1970 I left Chicago in a snowstorm in my heavy wool blues. I then left out of McGuire AFB on a full 707 heading for Ramstein. Everyone but me got off the plane. I was the sole passenger heading for Wheelus AFB, Libya, still wearing my winter blues. This was the 707 that Chappie James was leaving on so I had to stay in uniform and couldn’t even loosen my tie. It was over 100 degrees and I had to go through “customs” on the tarmac. Libyans made me unpack my duffel bag on the ground while my low quarters filled with sweat. I saw Chappie James from afar and only stayed at Wheelus for a short while before heading to my duty station in Malta.
Wheelus was on the Mediterranean but the beach was so hot it literally burned your feet.
I was transferred to Spain before Chappie left.
Someday I would like to write a book about being besieged by the Libyans after Gaddafy’s coup.
...but....but ...one small question...you only write in images...howz that gonna work out? A coffeetable picture book?
If you hurry, maybe Gaddafi will sign a few copies while he's still alive.
Me too!
Looks just like Eglin AFB, FL.
Ha ha. The lawns on Wheelus were sand boxes, but the beach was awesome.
Robin Olds and his movie star wife were on Wheelus when I was there. One of my best friends while there was Gregory Sierra. We were on the same radar crew and we sang together in our off time with some other airmen. I learned some years later that he had become an actor while watching Sanford and Sons. He was Julio.
While talking about the famous people who passed through Wheelus, I’ll mention one more. The base clothing store was just behind our group of barracks and one day my roommate, an airman second class, came back from the clothing store on cloud nine. He said that John Wayne had been in the clothing store buying a Safari Jacket. He had been in the company of a couple of high ranking officers, but he chose to talk with my roommate and he was in shock. Sophia Loren was his co-star and they were filming in the Libyan Desert. I don’t remember the name of the movie but it had something to do with a lost city in the desert. John Wayne wore that Safari Jacket in the movie.
I visit Wheelus on Google Earth occasionally and in spite of it’s being Libya’s International Airport, it looks pretty much the same to me. It appears that some of the old buildings, such as the row of Barracks, are still there.
