Criminal charges against the homeowner will be forthcoming.

If this man goes to jail, then the Brits are truly lost....

Criminal charges against the homeowner will be forthcoming. My first thought too.
And how did a baseball bat end up in England? Do they import them for use by hard working criminals?

Folks won't believe me, but England now has KNIFE control. I'm serious.
It's so bad that they even advertise this special "night table --the legs can be rapidly detatched and are baseball bats --the laying surface becomes a shield with straps.

It’s like breaking into a home in St. Louis with a cricket bat.

And how did a baseball bat end up in England? Do they import them for use by hard working criminals? They came from California...
seems the nanny CA gobmint deemed metal bats "too dangerous for teenagers" and made all the little leagues and schools buy all new wood bats at great expense.

What hath civilization wrought when one cannot rob a man and smash him with a brick without the fear of getting popped with a pellet...?

The UK has truly gone insane. Or their lawmakers anyway. The victim goes to jail while the crook is free to invade more homes.

Insane.
The Brits need to take the same approach as ranchers in our west are with wolves.
Shoot and shovel and shutup.

Fatal flaw...?
Should be about a foot long...
so the attacker can be impaled on it.

This homeowner will likely face charges, the home invader will not.

The home owner will get arrested and sent to jail more than likely.

but an investigator who arrived later charged the home invader since he threatened Holmes. Even though the man had broken into the home, Holmes could have been charged for the shooting if the burglar had not threatened him. As if breaking into someones home isn't threatening.

I am a big bat fan, prefer hickory @35 oz.
Got a buss load of old aluminum bats for free when such lunacy went on in some locale here.
One in every room.
Nothing like a smashed elbow and knee to reconcile ones view of the universe and the position occupied.
Anything with a barrel just gets you arrested.

From the article: Patterson ran away. In an effort to get Holmes arrested, he called police and told them that he was shot as he walked by the Holmes residence. What he didnt know was that Holmes had already called police to report the break in. The responding police didnt know who they would charge when they arrived, but an investigator who arrived later charged the home invader since he threatened Holmes. Even though the man had broken into the home, Holmes could have been charged for the shooting if the burglar had not threatened him.

Britons need to invest in a .22 LR pistol with a suppressor, a large rug, and a shovel. Shoot, shovel, shut up.
If a dozen YOBs disappeared every night, it wouldn't be long until they stop committing crimes.

Yes, and you can thank the idiot Blair and his government for that, with their incessant fetish for signing us up to European legislation and treaties we didn’t want.
The “stupid” judges and “stupid” cops are only enforcing a work-to-rule based on the “stupid” legislation that BLAIR and co signed us up to.
We’ve had a Parliamentary debate this week where the new government have been moaning about stupid judicial decisions with a view to creating our own Bill of Rights and junking the idiot thing Blair signed us up to.

Adding... Unless you are willing to kill.
And toss life as you know of it away.
