Yes, I have mulled over the increase of these simulated fictions/pseudolegends and understand what you refer to as pressures building up. I do not think this zeitgeist is a societal subconscious wish but a societal angst and guilt over evil behavior that has become licit in the culture at large. It is a reflection of deep faith, of recognition that there is right and wrong, good and evil. We are expecting a celestial spanking from the Guy Upstairs.
We are not fully corrupted yet and I expect the cultural pendulum to swing back soon.
I don't think our collective unconscious "wants" to see civilization collapse as much as it sees that our current civilization is unsustainable and to some extent corrupt and perhaps beyond repair. It's a way of "working out" the what-ifs of what happens when everything you've come to rely on goes away.
