I did not think it was that great of a speech. It went on and on way too long. The only good part IMO was when he was speaking personally about the people that were killed. He did a good job there. But that part could have written itself and in fact, Obama most likely did not write this speech only parroted it.

I took offense to his lecturing tone and the messiah moment when he announced that Gabby opened her eyes for the first time. I found that part disgusting.

He failed IMO miserably in not coming out the day this tragedy happened and put a stop to the finger pointing. He allowed that to happen and he allowed the hooting and hollering that went on in that stadium Wednesday night.

Just a few words from him could have resulted in a more appropriate atmosphere. Instead he allows it to happen and can later claim that he had nothing to do with it. Something he does quite frequently.

Discussion about this on various threads and boards has led me to a major realization.

My expectations of Obama are SO LOW that this seemed like an improvement. That’s incredibly sad.

I have also realized that there is a lot of focus being put on the speech and the rally, and on various aspects of both. The leftist pundits are continuing to hammer the supposed connections between conservative figures and the attack. The more time they spend on that, the less time they spend on what McCarthy, Brady, and King are up to. Who knows what else we’re missing? And all the time the conservatives are spending defending themselves/ourselves, the less time we are confronting the threats in Washington.

Funny how that works...

I agree with you and understand what you are trying to say. It is diverting attention and I do not think that conservative talk shows needed to spend more than a day or two fighting back against this.

There is nothing we can do however about the liberal media. But what is a shame is how so-called conservative media praised this speech. That was just feeding the beast IMO and it didn’t merit the praise it received.

We do need to get back to work and continue to push back against their agenda and push forward our agenda. Whether or not the repubs are up to it is another thing.

It may have been the best speech Obama has made but as you said, the bar has been set so low so it’s not really saying much.

Have you asked yourself why the White House chose to hold the ‘memorial’ in a university athletic venue instead of in a church?

There was no need for such a large event if the intent was to mourn the dead, or to pray for the hospitalized victims. It is ridiculous that 30,000 AU students, most of whom are not FROM Tucson, and 29,990 of whom most likely never met one of the victims or survivors, were free to attend and create an undignified political pep rally. Tucson is not church-free.

A comment was made on another site in a thread regarding the t-shirts. It caused a few things to click into place, and now I’ve got a terrible feeling in my gut.

“If you can get a Catholic university to remove it’s seal that bears the cross, you can certainly keep some college kids from distributing tee-shirts.”

The poster was right. When the President makes an appearance, NOTHING happens without the permission of the White House. So whatever we have against the rally can be traced to Washington. I hadn’t thought of it that way, and now that it’s occurred to me...

We have a major storm coming.
