We did the same and plan to continue with the same plan. The Son is half-way across the country now and we have decided it is time to see the USA but not in a chevrolet.
A hard two day drive or more each way I figure so the wife and will have an enforced conversation or I’ll listen to a lot of books.
I too used to fly globally but not so much now and boy, am I glad of it! If somebody gave me a free trip I’d give it back.
Alternative plan: get a mifi and surf the web while your wife is driving. It is totally worth it!

My son and DIL do a lot of long road trips. They discovered the books-on-tape rental program at Cracker Barrell. Rent a book-on-tape at one and then turn it in at the next one and get another one. Pretty good selection and they really enjoy the convenience - plus the food! My little grandson told me if I ever eat there I should go after 7 p.m. because all the older people are gone and service is faster. LOL
Gotta watch out for those old people.
I’ve about got ‘em broke from asking if I get a Sr. Discount. Told ‘em next person that asked me about that was going to get busted in the chops. Not now not never... I don’t care.

The MSM is so heavily invested in ObamaN they’ed have to carry his water if he raped a nun on live TV. To do anything else would sign their own death warrant as exposing them as totally biased.
Visited a friend in Bella Vista Arkansas last summer. I tipped the young man who carried our cart full of groceries out to the car $5.00. She was really upset at me - said none of them tip anyone because most of the people there have very limited income. Their group also won’t eat or shop anywhere that doesn’t give a senior discount. I like restaurants that offer smaller portions at a slightly lower rate but a discount just because I’ve lived longer than someone else - B.S.
