Islam relies upon a firewall. The Koran, like the Bible, has embarrassing parts. Christians translate the Bible into every language possible, and give serious thought to understanding the difficult parts. Muslims simply leave the Koran untranslated, memorize it phonetically in Arabic, and keep their devotees in the dark.

So, our Muslim friends may not have actually read that portion of the Koran.

In any case, since America is a "low-context" society, we appear to people from other parts of the world as cold, distant, stand-offish, superficial. However, in much of the world, talking with folks is what you do for recreation. Break free from one's own cultural shackles and wonderful things can happen. I have had more meals over the last five years with Turkish Muslims than I have with local Christians.

I can't think of a single thing the MMM have done to make the word a better place. Stealing innovations from other cultures does not count. Naming the stars is trivial. Calling them by their chinese name would not make the world any worse. I personally would prefer it.

Strange. I know of no muslim achievement in the United States significant enough to note, or not exceeded by every nationality and religion in the world. Perhaps you can give it a shot with some actual examples. The muslim achievements in the last 200 years in muslim countries would fit a tiny blank page. As would the Nobel Prizes by muslims in all the countries of the islamic Conference put together.
