I give my 16 year old cat both dry and canned food. Her favorites are Wysong Geriatrix dry and Avoderm tuna and crab meat in gravy. She has perfect teeth.

Dry food only is very bad for cats. Cats by nature do not drink enough water. Dry food will not give them the fluids they need to stay healthy. Dry food is why many cats get urinary infections. MY vet commented that she wished they never made dry cat food at all....

It has done wonders for my 17yo and my little ragdoll has no more ear problems or the itchy dandruff he was plagued with.

You have no idea how much that sentence has helped me!

‘Grain Free’ cleared up my Ragdoll’s loose stools immediately and for good.

It made me think about our dog. She has problems with one of her ears, allergy related. Made me think it could be dietary.

If you can buy it in the grocery store, it’s mostly crap. Fancy Feast Flaked Fish & Shrimp Feast isn’t bad if they will eat it. Stick to high quality, premium foods. Evangers, Artemis, Blue Buffalo, Go! Natural, Fromm, Wellness, EVO, Orijen etc. Also give dry and canned and switch or mix different brands. That’s my advice.

Check out the cat food reviews online.

Honestly, Science Diet is a low quality food that just costs a lot.

It pisses me off that vets push that Science Diet crap and I’ve told them that. Dogs and cats do not need grains and that was the source of the deaths in pet foods.

Here is an excellent site to see reviews with detailed analysis of ingredients.

I know many breeders that feed raw and they never have to have their teeth cleaned. I tried it for a while but the raw chicken on their coats was disgusting to me. Maybe they don’t get Salmonella from raw chicken but we do and mine are in the house most of the time. They aren’t outside dogs.

Not true. Premium dry foods have no fillers and no grains. Try EVO.

All I can do is go by many years of feeding it to my animals.

I fed it to mine too, years ago. Until I researched it and realized it was nothing but a scam between vets and Hill’s Follow the money. Cats and dogs do NOT need grains.

Evo chicken kibble does that to mine, so I just avoid the Evo dry chicken kibble and buy other flavors. I mix my dry food so they get 3-4 different brands with each feeding. I mix the dry with a few table spoons of Evangers Beef with liver, Beef and Beed with bacon, Evo Duck, Venison, Beef and turkey chicken, Tripe, go!Natural and other premium foods.

I do feed mine tripe sometimes and cooked ground beef or chicken or turkey once in a while.

My little JRT Cookie is like a new dog since she has been eating salmon, sweet potato and pumpkin dog food. I know that sounds unreal, but I had about given up and was considering putting her down. She scratched herself until she bled and she cried and whined while she did it. One day on the new food and she was better, now a couple of weeks on it and she has slimmed down and rarely scratches herself. I also give her a probiotic but she was better before that had time to work. I think all the dogs eat less of the new stuff, either because they don't like it or because the protein satisfies them better.

But if you don’t try good foods, how do you know they can’t be better than they are? Also, how old are they? The older they get the more likely the effects of a bad food will begin to present itself in kidney disorders, pancreas etc.
