Thanks for the reference. Ordered up for preps. The two year shelf life depends on so many things. We are lucky to have an area of the basement that stays at a constant temperature of 55, is dark and dry. Canned meat will last many years. Besides Yoders (at MREDepot) I have been unable to find other sources for canned roast beast.
Yoders is way over priced and reviews show that the meat isn’t that well put up.
Grabill County canned meat gets good reviews.
I would like to know more about Werling’s
BTW the Libbys is canned in Brazil not that the Brazilians dont know about beef, But the Grabill County is from Indiana and the Werling’s is from Ohio
Food-wise, I'm a big fan of quinoa. Very high in protein, stores well, cheap. For carbohydrates pasta is pretty nice. Properly stored, it keeps a long time, and again, cheap when bought in quantity. Honey is great food value on a tablespoon-by-tablespoon basis too. Properly sealed honey keeps indefinitely.
I'm nothing like an expert, though.
neither one. my experience with canned meat is pretty well limited to beef ‘n’ shrapnel...
All I know is tinned meat generally beats MRE’s
Add some fresh stuff and its pretty tasty compared to MREs
I tried all of Yoder’s product and found them to be very good. MRE Depot has the best price on them.
I saw a few crappy reviews on some survival forum regarding Yoders.
I cant really say, as I haven’t tried it.
Reviews say the bacon is fine.
MRE Depot has a case of 12 28oz cans for $71.95. Thats would be something close to the equivalent of 24lbs of un-cooked meat for about $3.00 a pound. Not a bad deal I think.
Yup. Thats a good deal.
I think Grabill County is doing it at $62
Werling is like $64 and has more meat options
BTW the consensus on Grandma Werlings BBQ pork is “too much sugar”
maybe you know....we had a well, very irony....then capped it and got hooked up to the local water district.....I’d like to put some kind of pump outside near the well so we could use that water in a pinch or for watering the gardern, etc.....Is that possible?
My point is does it make sense for everyone to have a six month supply of food and supplies? My conclusion is no. It is a waste of time and money.
Add to that, the very disaster you are preparing for may very well destroy your stockpile.
As I wrote, I do not live where I will be housebound because of a blizzard, or have to worry about a hurricane. We do have earthquakes but if one should hit and destroy my home, my stockpile of food would be gone. Same if the local river was to flood.
My preparations remain the same. Keep all my important papers in one place so I can grabbed them going out the door and cash. (Side note, I keep the cash in $20s not $100s)

....indeed it is...browse the Lehman’s catalog under the ‘water’ section...Lehman’s specializes in selling supplies to the Amish, and those folks know how to live simply.
