I turn on bluetooth when I need it, so maybe that’s why my phone battery lasts so long. Along with never turning on GPS unless I need it as well.
I’m not into that whole four Square thing or even facebook for that matter. I don’t like my personal life being out there, plus I may get fired for some of my conservative viewpoints.
Another great app is the SBP Time.
I have a co-worker with an iPhone that was raving about it and how winmobile sucks. He said look at how easy setting an alarm is on the iPhone....he did it in like 3 taps.
I showed him I could do it in two taps :-)
Feature for feature I beat him; however, where I failed was that I had to customize winmobile to do all that. The iPhone was out of the box ready. The sad thing is this guy is a pretty technical guy so if he didn’t want to play with his winmobile phone (he had touch pro 2 from verizon) to get it to work the way it should I doubt most ignorant users will. Plus he switched to ATT from Verizon which typically isn’t a good thing in my area. I have ATT and am happy with them but I know Verizon is the better one to use.
Well ATT is better for me because I can talk and tether at the same time. Huge deal for me as I have highspeed Internet anywhere I go and as long as ATT has 3G coverage. I don’t have to choose between talking and working.
I under stated the problem. Not only does the Ipad not have up and down cursor keys, it has no left or right cursor keys and no forward delete. The only way to change mistyping is to place the cursor ahead of the offending text and delete backward. And, that is easier said then done until the text is expanded so that the cursor can be placed in just the right spot with a finger tip. It is sooooooo stupid.
I still haven’t figured out how to select and cut or copy text.

Most people use plastic/silicon cases over their iphones...wouldn’t that alleviate the problem?
I'm one of those guys who spends a huge chunk of time each day on my phone, usually in teleconferences, and so I'm always wearing my BT headset so my hands are free to use my computer. Man, BT sucks down the battery!

That helps immensely, too... I'm not too worried since it's easy to plug my phone into the USB port on my laptop (which is on 24/7 unless I'm traveling) and let it charge each night. And the fact I can get 1800 mAhr batteries in China for $20 means that in a year, when I have to replace my stock unit, I can get back up-and-running for less than the postage of sending an iPhone to Apple and back, to have the battery "factory replaced"...;)

EXACTLY! That was my complaint to the MS dev team. You have a MONSTER of an OS, easily the best out there; your UI seriously sucks. And rather than trying to develop the talent in-house to create a new UI, just go and hire an outside team to do it. Then make that the new default UI.
I think if every WinMo phone shipped with SPB Mobile Shell they'd have a MUCH bigger consumer market.

I typically use Skype on my phone (it - and gProfile - are in my Startup menu); I have 7 Skype numbers around the world so I can stay in touch with clients and vendors as needed. And that way I always have data and telecom available. In fact, I probably use 200-300 actual "phone" minutes each month, and 6-8 times that in Skype minutes. SkypeOut bills run about $40/month, but since I'm chatting across 4 continents, for 25-30 hours a month, that's not too bad!
Wow. Just - wow. The delete/backspace thing I understand, since Apple has always eschewed the backspace key (why, I haven't the foggiest idea), but NO ARROW KEYS? That's just insane. Especially for a SOFT KEYBOARD. You can't tell me they could not fit them in, or even "double up" on an ALT+key set (ALT+; is up, ALT+< is left, ALT+> is down, ALT+/ is right).
Wow. That's someone saying "hey, why do we need arrow keys when the user can just touch where they want the cursor?" That person obviously is NOT a typist by any stretch of the imagination. Yes, lift your hands, move your cursor, then put your hands back on the keyboard. How absolutely inconvenient and error-inducing (as you get your fingers misaligned with the keyboard when returning to home row, for example).

Remember the iPhone didn't even have select and cut-and-paste for the first few years of life...;) This is how you do it on the iPhone, once it was added.

Well, per the graphic above, it helps, but does not solve the problem. Note that test 1 was the iPhone 4 sitting on a table, and test 3 was the iPhone in a leather case and held. Pings and download speeds are acceptable, but upload speed is still band, and the signal strength is 3 bars, versus 5 bars for the phone on the table.
But if a case is needed to make the phone work AS A PHONE, then it should be an included free accessory, not a $30 extra from Apple or a 3rd party vendor. Selling a cover to people just to make your phone work is really poor form!
It’s like selling you a car, and you can take it home with you no problem, right now!
But the steering wheel is extra.
And you can’t buy it at your dealer now, you have to go to NAPA or Shuck’s or O’Reilly’s to pick one up.
But you can buy the car and take it home today!
LOL! It’s a great phone, just don’t expect to hold it when you use it!
Yeah, previous iPhones were always suspect in their antenna placement and outside housing material choices.
My HTC is full-strength (3 bar display) when I hold it normally, or set it down; if I cup the entire top of the phone then it drops to 2 bars. It’s nearly instant (like 1-2 seconds) to respond. You can get the bars to dance back and forth by holding normally or cupping.
It’s really all about antenna placement and materials used; in my HTC, the antenna is at the top, on the back, and the rear housing is made from plastic (I believe HDPE). The material is transparent to EM fields (unlike metals), and the placement of the antenna is in a location that is VERY hard to naturally cover (you have to willingly try to cover the antenna).
Of course, there are style cues that you cannot use with such a placement and material, it’s hard to do brushed aluminum/metal skins with plastic, and you have to move some features (like the rear speaker and camera) a bit lower than you’d normally like. And you cannot do those ultra-thin edges (because the antenna is close to the edge). But at least it does function number one of a phone - make a phone call!

Actually, lower the reception, higher the battery usage will be.
Yep, pay Apple $30. Or, you can use electrical tape. Get a whole roll for about $5.
Likewise a connection that drops a lot will chew through your battery quickly because the phone kicks to high power mode when trying to establish connection to a cell.
Battery life is negatively impacted with poor reception.
