Looking back, that was very ambiguous. I meant, even if we couldn't have an oilman in the WH, it would be nice if we at least had a president who was willing to talk to them, even if said president was a moron. As it stands now, we have a moron who won't talk to them - the worst combination.
The “gas bubble” subject and article have nothing to do with the thread article nor with Blitzer. The geologist is Mike Miller - see the background on him posted in other comments.
This is the company that is giving you all your known facts:
BP disaster started in February?

You are welcome to take their word or the word of their lackeys but I’ll continue to think there might be things they are not telling us. I am not going to go looking for them but when I see them, I won’t automatically dismiss them because they don’t jive with the BP or story line.
Warthog (well named) I find your remarks to be utterly devoid of any scientific logic and offensively arrogant. I fail to see that you have provided even a smidgen of personal background material to justify your irritatingly factless remarks. I’d take a breather, Pal, and consider providing some SOURCE for your supercilious opinions. Based on my experience with oil geologists and extremely bright London based oil men, I’d say that your insulting efforts to torpedo Natural-Born’s research, which is designed to usefully collect information, suggests that you have a very suspicious agenda here. In my experience (roughly 35 years) the nasty and arrogant insistence on nebulous authority usually translates to something very dubious, and ideological. You appear to me to have taken a leaf out of the East Anglia University EXPERT SCIENTISTS’ sanctimoniousness. “Ex Cathedra” may be OK for the Pope, but it doesn’t cut it here.
What a stupid remark. It seems you have some complex wherein you feel that people beneath your level of sophistication should be protected from anything you consider to be too “scarey.” Or maybe you don’t think most of the small people have any ability to watch something informational without curling up in a little ball and covering their heads in anticipation of that acorn that’s about to bonk them on the head. It is a very condescending attitude and totally unnecessary. You should stick to your day job.
Damn good remark, and considering that Churchill was lumped in with the nutballs in those days - and was BANG ON about the emerging evils - a good illustration for your remark. Unfortunately the normal sanctimonious irritants amongst us seem to continue to deny out-of -the-box thinking and insist on their overwhelmingly bureaucratic or just plain ideological views. Useful more as supporting the out-of-the-box approaches in their whinging complaints.
Thanks for the post. great graphic
Well and reasonably put, it seems to me.
YOU ARE A BREATH OF FRESH AIR AND SANITY
AMIDST AN OVERPOPULATION OF SLEEPWALKING BLIND AND DEAF ARROGANCE.
THANKS TONS.
I’ve almost become allergic to the naysayers hereon.
They don’t appear to have much in terms of original thought.
They seem to be so terrified of a TYPE I ERROR that they suck constantly on the teat of a TYPE II ERROR completely oblivious that both can be deadly.
Sheesh.
Read back up the thread a ways, bubba. I've given more than sufficient credentials to establish some expertise. But because you're probably too lazy to do it, I'll repeat it. I'm a PhD Chemist, having practiced the art for forty years. I've got a couple of dozen patents on different aspects of measurement technology, some of which are even applied in the oil business. My wife taught petroleum engineering at a major university for fifteen years. My sister-in-law is a career geophysicist, with a 20 year career in 3D seismic and many producing wells to her credit. I'm from Louisiana, and grew up in the latter heyday of the Lousiana oil patch, so I am more than familiar with the territory and the people involved.

Use the "In-forum" feature. You can find quite a few posts with links to REAL SCIENCE that I've included. The only "agenda" I have is to try to get some REAL FACTS into the discussion instead of the tsunami of wild rumors and speculation that is going on. And I've been looking up odd facts on the internet more than long enough to tell the difference between a site based on real science, and a nutcase conspiracy site.
Very few people appear to be doing even the slightest bit of background fact-checking. They suck down the most outrageous CRAP and don't blink an eye.

You can check anything I've said back to real and validated science. And I've been on this forum a LOT longer than you, so I know quite well what "cuts it here".
//There is a possibility of complete structural failure of the well head where this really starts gushing and its pretty much a race whether or not they can get those relief wells drilled//
Yeah that is pretty much it and from what I have learned about the geology of the GOM in this area (and learned about this well) I am sadly pessimistic.
BP makes massive oil find in deep Gulf of Mexico, reported Sept 2, 2009
BP's chief of exploration Wednesday estimated that the Tiber deposit holds between 4 billion and 6 billion barrels of oil equivalent, which includes natural gas.
Many thanks, WW.
