Thank you very much for the link to that excellent SC Congressional districts map, visualops. Wow, look at that gerrymandering around Charleston... no wonder I was confused! ;-)

For instance, the guy in Charleston who is a "conservative" is the one holding up Voter ID in committee ... but running as a strict Christian Conservative. Lindsey Graham's commercials, when he ran, touted him as "the conservative choice".

Very interesting... thanks for that info!

Moved here from Memphis TN to retire 5 years ago, still in love with the place (Sun City, Hilton Head, SC). C'mon down!

Thanks... I'd love to re-visit Hilton Head! :o)

We didn't see Hilton Head on our trip along the SC coastline last week, but we did stay there briefly back in October 2001... loved what we saw! (loved Savannah, GA as well)

If my research is correct, the Hilton Head area is even more conservative than Charleston. Are there affordable houses in the Hilton Head area on/near the ocean? I only remember seeing resorts there...

What's the deal with Kiawah Island? Rich and exclusive?

To put it mildly.

Pretty much what I expected, I guess. The cars that were allowed through those gates looked awfully "ordinary" to me, though... not a bunch of Mercedes, Jags, etc.

BTW, just let us know when you decide to make the move and we will help ya move and bring you some food to stock the fridge till you get settled! You will not meet better, kinder, greater people than in the South!

WOW... now that's hospitality! Geesh, you certainly don't have to go through all that trouble, but what a nice offer... thank you! :o)

You are SO right about kind and great people in the South. We drove from Florida back to CT over the past week and a half, and everyone we met in the southern states was SO nice and hospitable!

If you decide to take a trip up north, beware parts of the northern Blue States where many people won't even make eye contact with you, or will look at you like you have 3 heads if you have a GOP, conservative and/or Tea Party sticker on your car. I'm SO sick of getting that treatment up here.

Thank you for your info about upstate SC... hubby and I will definitely have to check out the rest of the state when we can. I had no idea Lindsey Grahamnesty didn't even carry his home area! LOL

Congratulations on Nikki Haley's big win tonight (I know there's still the runoff, but she'll win that). She looks like an exciting candidate... best of luck to her this November!

Thank you so much for you info on South Carolina in #17. You and I think alike regarding the coastal areas around Charleston. I remember the Hilton Head area was nice, too, but I haven't been there since 2001, and it was a brief stay.

What I’ve found is that most folks here are solid, Conservative citizens who love their country and believe in the vision of the Founders. They are patriotic, and they are tired of Washington, DC trying to run every aspect of their lives. They’re also tired of the games that go on in the State Capital of Columbia, too. Our primaries are today, and we’re looking with anticipation for big changes.

That's exactly the impression we got from people we met last week in South Carolina. It's SO different from life up here in Connecticut (and throughout the northeast), generally speaking. Just one example: I can't ever imagine the Connecticut DMV offering a "In God We Trust" license plate. Won't ever happen. Isn't that sad?

Congratulations to Nikki Haley! (She'll win that runoff for sure) What an exciting young candidate. We look forward to following her campaign through November.

The congressional districts have been so gerrymandered over the decades by Democrats to make sure they kept some districts and had at least one minority representative (can you say “Clyburn?”) that it’s hard to know when you are in one and out of another. I believe someone has already posted the contortions that pass for districts now in SC.

Yes, visualops posted this SC Congressional districts map in #14 above. What amazing gerrymandering for Clyburn and the 'RATs. No wonder I was confused! ;-D

Saw Clyburn's big billboards all over the Charleston area, btw. Ugh!

Most of it is a pretty exclusive resort area but there is still a small town on the island. I imagine you were watching the locals.

Besides Charleston, we particularly loved the towns of Sullivan's Island, Isle of Palms, Mt. Pleasant, Folly Beach and James Island. It was confusing to me which town/area was in which voting district though.

My wife and I LOVE Isle of Palms...used to make the 6-hour run down I-26 from East Tennessee as often as possible. Unfortunately; I am stuck in New England (spit, spit, spit) right now, but am working on getting away.

Bad enough that you have 'Constitution State' on your plates...blasphemy! :-)

I’ve met and spoken with Nikki on a couple of occasions. She’s got a lot going for her — and she’s the darling of ther Tea Parties, which is where I first became familiar with her views. Pray for her. The Good Ole’ Boy network (Republicans AND Democrats) down here hates her with a passion. It would be too much to ask that Gresham Barrett do the right thing and conceded the race so she can concentrate on defeating the Democrat Sheheen... Thanks for your posts! :-)
