Every now and then, friendly foreign troops come to the US to use some of our training facilities, like NTC. We also move foreign vehicles used by US OPFOR troops around once in a while as well. When either of these happens, the so-called “patriot community” goes nuts, yelling about the balloon going up, imminent UN control and “marshall law”; we also get blurry photos of so-called internment camps and the occasional reports where someone claims to have seen long lines of white boxcars with wrist shackles bolted to the walls.
While I don’t doubt the capacity of the current administration to eventually call in UN troops for some spurious reason, I don’t believe they are at the point yet where they could reasonably expect to get away with it. Society here is still relatively stable, large swathes of the population are dissatisfied with the administration’s policies but nowhere near rioting in the streets, and the economy still has a significant private sector.
