At a veterans event in Shelton, he said, "When we returned from Vietnam, I remember the taunts, the verbal and even physical abuse we encountered," according to a 2008 Connecticut Post story. -- http://www.comcast.net/articles/news-general/20100518/US.Blumenthal.Vietnam/
Yeah, he just misspoke.

Thanks. So glad a statement has been made.
Prayers for all our honorable vets. Those who served in the States and those who went overseas.

call and complain FReep the VFW
VFW HQs
They need to publicly repudiate Blumenthal for
stealing valor by using the VFW as a backdrop.

Is it true that he also said that he was the captain of the Harvard swim team when he wasn’t even on the team?
I’ve been watching this guy for years and smarmy is too kind a word to describe him.

So apparently “misspeak” is the new euphemism for LIE.
To: Talkradio03
This outraged me and made me laugh hysterically at the same time!
To: Talkradio03
he makes me sick and the people with him make me sicker.
Let me see, he got deferments for 5 years was likely to get drafted with lottery number 152/366 and went into the reserves, is that about right?

I’ll park this cache here - Hartford Courant is probably scrubbing their archives as we type:
10/08/04] ; THE PUBLIC AND PRIVATE LIFE OF DICK BLUMENTHAL
Pay-Per-View - Hartford Courant - ProQuest Archiver - Oct 3, 2004
In Richard’s case, that meant four years at Harvard University, where he was captain of the swim team, editor-in-chief of the Harvard Crimson and a magna ...
The link shows this:
ProQuest Archiver is unavailable until 7:00 PM EST Tuesday May 18th, 2010 while we perform scheduled system maintenance. We apologize for this inconvenience, and thank you for your patience.

"American Legions have foxhole memberships for people who never served but want to be served cheap beer."
Your American Legion may call them foxhole memberships, but the official name is that they are social members. Yes, the VFW has social members also. In the Legion, the social members can be further categorized. If your mom or dad was a veteran you can be part of the Sons of the Legion.

It’s sickening.
I got qot a very nice email back from headquarters assuring me that they had no idea he would be using VFW headquarters for his press conference.
And assuring me he is NOT a member of the VFW.
At least the Connecticut VFW issued a statement as well.

"The supporters standing behind B were primarily Marine Corps League,"
Yes, a couple of them were wearing a Marine Corps League jacket. However, it's just a windbreaker and not offically part of the uniform. I did not see any of them have their MCL caps on, no MCL uniform or blazer. I would think that since the Marine Corps League is a 503 (c or d I don't know which) they would be in trouble with their tax exempt status if those guys were there in any offical capacity.
That said, I am a member of my local Marine Corps League and a dual member at a few others. I can tell you that the vast majority of MCL members that I know would never stand behind this scum bag. He must have dredged the bottom of the barrel to find guys to stand behind him.
To: Talkradio03
Misspeaking is getting a date wrong. Deliberately saying you did one thing when you know you did not is lying.
To: Carley
"And assuring me he is NOT a member of the VFW."
Yeah, he wouldn't qualify to be a full member. A social member only.
To: Old Teufel Hunden
Memorial Day is a time to celebrate the VFW. This could not have come at a worse time for them.
Let’s hope they continue to speak out against the LIAR.
And by the way, has LIEberman made any statement about this?

"And by the way, has LIEberman made any statement about this?"
I'll bet he steers clear of this one. Didn't think about Memorial Day. A day when politicians love to make speeches to gathered crowds. I'm sure Blumy is probably lined up to give a few speeches that day at a few Memorial Day events. Should be interesting to see what kind of reception he gets there. Most people would be cordial to a politican at an event like that, even though you don't agree with him. This is a different story now...

How would dems survive without the word, “misspoke” available to glom on to when caught in big fat lies?
