Can’t we just say that we have an additional 32 Republicans running this year that will add to the overall conservative direction of America. Even Republicans are trying to use “being Black” to forward our beliefs. Kinda sad that we are being like liberals.

To this conservative it looks too contrived. Why limit the field to a black candidate when any of a number of conservatives can win in 12? Just my opinion.

Thomas Sowell has written extensively on the harm done to individual black students by ‘over-promoting’ them into a college that is more competitive than their own current level of competence. Likewise, to push our best black politicians to the presidential level before they have fully accumulated the experience they would otherwise need is doing them and us a disfavor.

I’m thrilled that we have such an impressive array of black candidates running this year, and I want to see them prosper politically for years to come.

That’s my point. It’s not like there are only black candidates that one might argue we’re supporting just because they’re black (i.e., an AA pick). West, Cain, even Angela McGlowan in MS I’d support even if they were as lily white as my skinny butt!

Republicans already lost the race to elect the first black president. As it stands now, all US history books will forever read that the first black president was a Democrat. Serious attention should be given to finding an electable female candidate. Longer term strategies should then include Hispanic and Asian candidates. Failure to do so will only widen the gap between minority voters and the GOP. Of course, all of this is useless if the party can’t figure out what its stands for.

I don’t think there will be another black president for years and years

A more likely possibility is soon to be Senator Marco Rubio as the GOP VP candidate.

West—I really like him...and he doesn’t need a teleprompter. He has it all over Zero.

It is heartening though that the black conservatives are coming out of the closet. We all knew they were there, but because of the Dems’ racist strategy of attacking them as “Uncle Toms,” they’ve shied from running. Now they apparently have had enough.

We agree. I really think we are blessed to have them and I want to see the Republican party support them strongly. From the few such as Cain and West whom I have followed, they seem of a caliber above our political average. I think they should be judged on their merits—which is precisely and all that they seem to want—and they’ll do just fine.

Your 100 percent right and I am very glad. I just wish we did not have to use titles as the liberals do.

That being said, I wonder if the only way to definitively beat Obama in 2012 is with a black Republican candidate.

That's the silliest thing I have heard in quite a while.
Blacks will always vote like 99% for 0bama, no matter who the GOP candidate is.
You want proof?
Look at Michael Steele himself. When he run for the US Senate in Maryland against a white guy, the blacks overwhelmingly voted for the white guy, because he had a “D" after his name, rather than vote for Steele, who was a black with an “R” after his name. It's total waste of time for Republicans to even think of nominating a black guy for 2012 to win the black vote. No gonna happen. Plus we have plenty of great candidates already for 2012. We don't need any affirmative action, race pandering candidates.

I agree. Many claim to be conservative - thinking of Colin Powell, Condi, Steele. Why haven’t these conservatives come out and openly oppose this constant racist crapola? Because they enjoy it and feed off of it.

He has to beat Crist first (he will), and clarify his position on enforcing illegal immigration laws. Plus there are literally hundreds of great potential VP candidates out there.
