There is no less freedom to drill in those offshore waters as there was under Reagan, Bush, Clinton and Bush.
However, the only way there will be a real push for more offshore drilling in the US is for oil to reach and maintain a price at or above $100.00 a barrel.
Until then, there in not enough money for us to drill for that domestic oil.
That means building a new generation of safe, clean nuclear power plants in this country. It means making tough decisions about opening new offshore areas for oil and gas development.
Today, a mere two months later...
"President Bush had two bans rescinded in 2008 in The Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) which would have allowed drilling. But Salazar plans to eliminate the entire 2010-2015 Bush lease plan. No alternate plan is on paper yet. Evidently, Obama has no intention of opening up new areas for offshore drilling during his tenure in office. So in realty, huge amounts of assets in domestic energy will be wasted, while billions of additional dollars are spent on foreign oil."
