Wiki has a pretty fair rundown of the governor’s race and I agree about Hoekstra.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michigan_gubernatorial_election,_2010#Announced_2

I don’t trust this Snyder guy. He plays himself off as some kind of computer nerd but as far as I can tell he’s an attorney who happened to run Gateway.

Verg Bernero seems to be on the outs with the unions for some reason but I haven’t really paid any attention.

"Michigan employers had better get accustomed to annual decreases in the number of employers and jobs increases for years and years."

Fixed for accuracy...

You are soooo right about Michigan. How they have managed to field football teams over the years is a miracle considering who they vote for.

I like Mike Cox more than Hoesktra. However, I can support either.
Cox got a rap from not investigating Kwame in Detriot any deeper. Unfortunately, he was indeed limited in what he could do. For the most part, the AG cannot initiate investigations and they really don’t have any staff to do investigations. They rely on municipal or State Police. He is working hard to get the republican nominations and for the most part,he does know what he is talking about. He did improve the AG office after Grandholm left it in a bit of a mess.

Michigan voters have finally found the political problems in Michigan..
AND the problem is THEM...

The Michigan State government is Mob Rule by mobsters..
that protect Michiganders from THE MOB..

However; they do not know what to do about it..
Must be the Kool Aid is spiked..

Conservatives need to continually and loudly hold Michigan up as the poster child for big government, liberal policies and a microcosm of what the Obama Administration will do to the USA. With all that Michigan has going for it, it has been wrecked by liberals policies catering to entitled people in perpetual need. Michigan is full of examples of things government should not do. Perhaps the one good thing that can come out of this disaster is to serve as an example of what not to do.

Outside help to retake the state sure wouldn't hurt. Unfortunately some "conservatives" would rather throw us to the wolves and feel superior. Its funny how they'll run to help a moderate win in Mass but won't help conservatives in a far more conservative state like Michigan.

My personal crusade. This is my home and I'm going to continue to fight for it.

Just a suggestion for fellow tea partiers (and FReepers of course) to consider.

In blue states where conservatives have a legitimate shot, how about you red staters helping us out?

This is just one example but I'm sure there are many more.

In Michigan's 7th district conservative Tim Walberg is leading incumbant democrat Mark Schauer in early polls which is a good thing. However, fundraising has been an issue in a state where the private sector has been decimated and the ACORN/SEIU types have been getting an increasing share of the taxpayer nipple. Basically there is nothing more to give in the places that need conservatives the most and I'm sure democrats have been counting on this.

I hope red state conservatives will take a close look at their races and if the conservative is doing well, maybe you can consider sending a few bucks to blue state conservatives who have a legitimate shot.

When you help a blue state elect a conservative, you help that state stand on its own and more important you help America.

Michigan and Detroit in particular, was ground zero for Lyndon Johnson’s “Great Society”, and the Federal Government built most of the City. It is largely abandoned now, with entire residential blocks being allowed to “return to nature” so to speak. With a median home value of $5000 or so, there is no appreciable tax base to run much of anything.

I do agree that that Michigan must have some of the stupidest people in the world to keep voting the way they do, and this whole sideshow will continue up there until the food riots finally burn what’s left of Detroit off the map.

Michigan is another good place to be from...

Detroit is definitely Michigan's biggest problem. The audio of the woman waiting in line for "Obama Money" is sadly a classic of the Detroit attitude. I fear you're right about the food riots and burning.

Years ago, I attended a training class in Flint, Michigan. It was the most depressing place I'd ever been. One evening another class member and I drove around for more than an hour looking for a reasonable sit-down restaurant for dinner. The next day, we asked the class instructor about a place to eat. He told us we'd found the only place in town he'd even consider eating.

I lived in Michigan for 30 years, so I do have a certain soft spot in my heart for the big mitten. I lived on the west side of the state; I was proud to have Pete Hoekstra as my congressman.

I laud your conviction in fighting for Michigan. I'm afraid -- and I'm sorry to say this -- my experience there makes me rather cynical regarding Michigan's prospects. I seriously think that until there's a MAJOR change in Detroit, and I think that it almost assuredly will involve large riots and loss of life, conservatives in Michigan can't overcome the Democrat population base on the east side of the state coupled with the union vote. The only other possibility I can imagine is apathy with black voters. With the Obama Administration's come to power, I don't foresee that apathy in the black vote any time soon.

Michigan is not Detroit. Of the 83 counties in Michigan, less than 10 are consistent democrat strongholds. We’ve banned gay marriage and affirmative action and have decent concealed carry laws.

Throwing us overboard is the cowards way out.

I understand your strong emotions, but I’d appreciate you not making insinuations regarding my courage. Far from throwing Michigan overboard, I believe some things must run their course before they can change, much like a drunk needs to hit bottom before he gets sober.

This problem will solve itself as the the high paying ‘green job’ like installing electrical outlets for all the electric cars come on line and producing all those solar roof panels and home windmills.

On the other hand I wouldn’t move to Detroit just yet.

(my sarcasm button is worn out from excessive use)
