I said:
1) I like how she splits her support between “Tea Party” candidates w/ more “established” candidates. I think this is wise and she clearly wants to strengthen the GOP overall.
2) I also appreciate that she looks at each candidate on a case by case basis: probably researching the issues unique to each state the candidate is representing, what each can contribute to the GOP, what they will contribute to the current Washington landscape, what group of people they could bring into the conservative movement, etc...OR, she may just really LIKE the person and believe they have the right heart and sincere patriotism. Sometimes people with better stances on paper might not have good character.
3) I believe Palin sees things in a BIG PICTURE way. Think Scott Brown. He was the right guy at the right time for Massachusetts, for America. Is he PERFECT? No. Do we agree with him on everything? No! But he most definitely has a part to play in D.C.
4) Regardless, I have already made my committment to support Palin for 2012 should she run. She’d have to pull a real red flag for me to change my mind—like become Jehovah’s Witness or something. The more I learn about her, observe her actions, and come to know who she is at her “core,” the more I believe she is the right person to lead the free world at this time. I am not looking for perfection or to be in 100% agreement with her. As I’ve said, I’m not voting for a Messiah, I am looking for a President. I hope that it is God’s plan for America that she will become just that!
We shall seee!
From my perspective, Palin has not pulled any red flags. She has proven herself to be the best candidate tiem and time again especially considering who else is in the running. But that's just me. You guys are entitled to your own opinions. I personally am not looking for a Messiah, I am looking for a President.
with all due respect, if you don’t see ANY RED FLAGS now, I doubt if you will see any later on. Red flags don’t come any brighter and obvious than supporting Graham. If anything we need to kick his sorry butt out. I can see how she would go out on a limb for McCain after he picked her as a running mate but a RINO like Graham, no way.
Yes, you are right. I probably won’t see any red flags later because she’s already won my trust. The Lindsay Graham thing is not enough to deter me away from supporting her in the least, but I understand if it is for you. As with everyone, I would definitely encourage you to keep a critical eye on all the other candidates as well before making decisions. It will be interesting primary season come 2011/2012...(And again, I don’t even know 100% if Palin is even running!) If she isn’t, I probably won’t pay as much attention to tell you the truth, but would lean towards anyone-but-Romney.
* Hi teg, I already pointed out the idea that it’s contradictory to accuse Palin supporters of being messianic because if to expect “perfection” in a candidate is like expecting a messiah! But again, everyone is entitled to set the standards by which to judge a candidate.
I wanted to give you an idea of why Palin has won my trust. Palin won my trust before I even knew about her political record of accomplishment (which is quite impressive.) To me, her actions OUTSIDE of politics, like her choice to have and love Trig, her genuine (not phony) faith in Christ, are what won me over. Not to mention her respect for the military of which her own son is a part. Reading Going Rogue and learning more about her life experiences, the ethic developed, and the perspectives shaped by living in a place like Alaska made me more inclined to appreciate the particular worldview she has.
I trust her to have what it takes to be a leader whatever the context or situation. For me, those things outweigh years of experience or scholarly knowledge and expertise of certain fields.
I like Bachmann too, don’t get me wrong, but I don’t see her as much of a national figure as I do with Palin for whatever reason.
Other people look for different things in a leader and are impressed by different things. That’s understandable and you have every right to your opinions.
I’m not giving up on Sarah, just a little put out about a few things of late. She is still the best one out there of the ones we know about so far. I’m not one to throw the baby out with the bath water. Aloha to you from Maui
AMEN!
palin build alliances, while ron paul mocks ppl he disagrees
yes and there needs to be a distinction made between RON paul and RAND paul LoL. I think Rand Paul is more pragmatic and open minded. Less of an idealogue than his dad.
I’m quickly losing interest in Palin. I can understand McCain, but Graham? Does anybody else here wonder what her viewpoints on key issues are? So tell us, who’s she endorsing in the Illinois primary? Has she endorsed Hughes, or is she quietly allowing a pro-baby-slaughtering, pro-sodomy-worshipping, gun grabbing eco-Marxist like Kirk take the election? How about Connecticut? Is she cool with Simmons, or is she willing to support a conservative like Schiff? Delaware?
Who are the tea party candidates she’s supporting?
Conservatives like to sail out like some 19th Century Frigate with all their purity flags flying even when they face a fleet of enemies. They end up many times sinking in a storm of cannon fire with all their flags flying. Very heroic but its a philosophy that has given us Obama and his posse of Pinkos. We need to weigh our people and not be so quick to judge. Sarah Palin is a good example—trashed from the left and moderate Republicans the Conservatives have turned on her for her support of McCain. Now, I don’t like McCain nor do I like RINOs but I admire her loyalty to the man. I believe she is mistaken here but she has been right so many times I will cut her some slack on this issue.
Oh would you please spare us the drivel that we must look at the sum total B.S.!
Sorry, this really isn’t that complicated. She can’t go around touting that she’ll support “common sense conservatives”, and then announce that she’ll be supporting the likes of Juan McCalme, the “King of the RINO’s!”
I can only speak for myself, but since she’s announced that she’ll be stumping for McCain, I’ve been less inclined to read her posted opinions on various topics. Why? Because they ring just a little less true now.
I will not be caught up in the cult of personality like the Dems are with Odumbo!
Ronald Reagan the gold standard president of conservatism picked a couple of lib VP's and SC justices. I would also add that Bork was terrible on 2A.
Words are very important in American politics. They are our chosen substitute for open warfare and bullets. So, politicians should be judged by the content and quality of their words.
They should also be judged intensely for the public policies they endorse. Those policies are the point at which words are translated into action.
But, who they endorse or ally themselves with is also VERY telling and important. Personnel IS policy. Those who ignore this critical aspect are being willfully blind.
So, to recap in the context of this thread, political candidates should be judged in three main areas:
1. Their words.
2. The policies they endorse.
3. Who their allies and political associates are.
And frankly, since politicians lie, number three probably tells you more about a person than the first two.
michelle bachmann, rand paul, doug hoffman in NY-23 was tea party-ish etc...
Those are legit standards to measure potential leaders by...I admit, Palin won my trust BEFORE I even knew much about her politics or record...
To me, her actions OUTSIDE of politics, like her choice to have and love Trig, her genuine (not phony) faith in Christ, her family, etc... are what won me over. Not to mention her deep-seated respect for the military of which her own son is a part. Reading Going Rogue and learning more about her life experiences, the ethic developed, and the perspectives shaped by living in a place like Alaska made me more inclined to appreciate the particular worldview she has.
I trust her to have what it takes to be a leader whatever the context or situation. For me, those actions I listed above speak volumes and far outweighs having a fat resume and distinguished peers... I don’t believe in perfect candidates, therefore the fact that she endorses certain people who I am not lock-step with on everything won’t be red flags for me...though they may be for you and that’s understandable.
To each his own! :)
Thank you for making this post.
As you already know, when I look at Palin’s words, policies, and political associations I find her woefully lacking.
