I happen to agree with you. And you are correct some of the knuckle draggers have been particularly crude in their comments——one too many concussions perhaps?

Hildy — In response to Chad, I just added a comment to my post in order to clear up any possible confusion: "Chad -- Did you read the post? Did you notice at the end of the third paragraph, I wrote: As we all know, the effort succeeded — thankfully, I might add. To me, “swift-boating” is an all-out, coordinated effort to achieve a goal through visible and clandestine means. Hell, I’m a veteran and supported the Swift-Boat Vets’ efforts! There’s no “echo” of liberals here!!" Bob McCarty

Frankly I'm not positive it was a "form of punishment"...

That said....we don't know the mind-set of anyone involved.

Doesn't matter now....really.

It's h20 under the bridge...

Leach is a talented coach....no doubt about it.

Being "the" coach can be a tuff job....even when you do everything right.

[...we don’t know the mind-set of anyone involved.]

Granted, I was just speculating, considering the way he spoke about the James family last week.

I agree that he is a very talented coach and those that speculate that he will be teaching at some high school due to this “blight” on his record - are surely mistaken!

I figure other LARGE colleges or even an NFL team (or two) seeking an offensive coordinator/head coach have already been speaking to Mr. Leach!

Yes, NCAA football is all about the money however, Texas Tech is not big
time college program. At best, Tech is is at the botto
of the second tier of programs along with Baylor, Iowa State, Michigan State and Texas A&M.

Considering I am the only one that mentioned having had a concussion, I would like you to reference my “crude” statements to Carley.

Otherwise, you should shelf your venom for when it is truly needed and leave the rest of the dialog to the grown-ups.

[...Baylor...Texas A&M]

You may not be aware that the athletic programs at these colleges (even when fielding loosing teams) are still a large - very large - part of the operating budget (especially here in Texas).

And the schools above, along with Tech, TCU, Houston, Rice (and even smaller division schools like SFA, Sam Houston State, etc...) are not aware that they are “not big time college program{s}.”

And trust me, ANY school that is in the Big 12 (or other BCS conference) IS a part of that football=money mentality!

Thank goodness there was someone looking out for the student.

And who was that? Who ok'd the kid not dressed for play but rather in street attire to hang out in the building during practice due to light sensitivity associated with concussions?

combative and arrogant

Combative and arrogant????? Hmmmm, let me see, how about Schembechler, Hayes, Bryant, and virtually every major successful football coach who recognizes that their football program supercedes the interests of the primadonnas who are unwilling to work for the team and the university that is granting them their scholarship.

Make no mistake about it, Div. I football is a business and the kids who choose to accept payment via college tuition are employees of that university and their boss is the COACH!

And that COACH was hired for one specific purpose and that purpose is to WIN!

If you don't want to do what it takes to guarantee your "salary" then you don't belong in the big league. Take your lazy butt down to Div. II or III and be the big man on campus...........You can't have it both ways..........

Again, the press keeps using Swift Boating in the wrong way. The Swift Boaters were telling the truth.

Correct assessment.......

The top tier of NCAA programs are, Texas, ND, Florida, USC and Michigan.

Texas could finance the entire Tech program from their gameday popcorn sales.

Your reading comprehension sucks. I never mentioned anything about a degree in football.

The Sand Aggies with or without Leach will never be a Big Time national program but Tech players will always have fat girlfriends.

I was with you till you got to ND. The only thing ND has going for it is HISTORY. Until the AD decides to actually commit to a coach for more than three years, they will continue to have mediocre season, after mediocre season - IMO.

But, in fairness, Texas could finance the majority of the Div I schools programs on their popcorn sales - because they are consistently in the top three teams in the nation in sports PROFIT.

But, I would be willing to bet that Tech could finance the complete college budget of many of their fellow Div. I schools - using only their sports budget. That is why I was saying that they don’t realize they are “not top tier.”

I did not say those teams were good, buy only that ND made a lot of cash.

I think that ND has seen a HUGE drop in alumni donations to their athletic department because they have been so mediocre in the last ten years.

I don’t think ND makes NEARLY as much as they were making in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s.

Okay, whatever. Damn. I'm wrong on occasion. I agree that people are way too sensitive these days. I still can't believe that Magnioni guy (or whatever his name is) got fired for poking a player in the chest. That is ridiculous.
