I really believe that this was all plotted out, including the “resistance” before it ever got to the Senate. It’s just too familiar, the holdouts right up until the last minute, the bargaining and begging and then, surprise, the bill passes.

I wasn’t always a skeptic but this is obviously playing out exactly as planned with a foregone conclusion, we’re screwed.

Senate Health Care Bill Would Allow Insurers to Limit Coverage for Seriously Ill Patients

Friday, December 11, 2009
By Ricardo Alonso-Zaldivar, Associated Press

Washington (AP) - A loophole in the Senate health care bill would let insurers place annual dollar limits on medical care for people struggling with costly illnesses such as cancer, prompting a rebuke from patient advocates.

The legislation that originally passed the Senate health committee last summer would have banned such limits, but a tweak to that provision weakened it in the bill now moving toward a Senate vote.

As currently written, the Senate Democratic health care bill would permit insurance companies to place annual limits on the dollar value of medical care, as long as those limits are not "unreasonable." The bill does not define what level of limits would be allowable, delegating that task to administration officials.

The provision is included in far-reaching legislation that would carry out President Barack Obama's plan to revamp the health care system, expanding coverage to millions now uninsured and trying to slow budget-busting cost increases. A tentative deal among Senate Democrats to back away from creating a new government program to compete with private insurers appears to have overcome a major obstacle to the bill's passage.

Officials of the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network said they were taken by surprise when the earlier ban on annual coverage limits was undercut, adding that they have not been able to get a satisfactory explanation. Read more here. read more here

Isn’t this the same guy that the Whitehouse threatened to close a major military installation in his state if he didn’t fall in line on the health care bill????

They intend to paint the GOP as obstructionists.

Not that there's anything wrong with that.

The battle lines are already drawn, the R's in congress don't have anything to lose by stopping the bill but they sure have something to lose if they don't.

Laying down quietly may still be a no vote but won't satisfy the folks back home who expected them to fight not just roll over.

as if there was any doubt that they would pass “something” to claim a victory for Obama and the democrats. But the damage is done to their own party as well as america now.

Not only will they suffer in the polls but watch the fun now as they eat their own, their differences are deep and they will not help each other out anymore.

I predict a crippled congress henceforth.
