What country has the lowest crime rate?

I knew that would come up. :o) On a global level, it might be impossible to say "which country has the lowest crime rate." What is crime from country to country? In the ME, stoning a girl to death for getting raped is not a crime.

Back to support for my wild assertion that Switzy does not have the lowest crime rate. First we must pick a common crime that all can agree is detered for guns for this comparison. Let's go with murder. While we can't find a stat for a nation that says zero, we can find certain per capita ranks compiled by folks....could go on....

I go to an almanac.

I could go on but I think Singapore has one of the lowest crime rates overall. They whip criminals and have an efficient if not barbaric method of trial and punishment.

Well.......... there are now enough muzzies infesting the land of William Tell that the majority just voted to ban minarets, didn’t they?

In general the "immigrants" are never able to become Swiss Citizens, and thus cannot vote. They also aren't issued firearms, either assualt rifles or for officers semiauto handguns, the way citizen males are.

Between the ages of 21 and 32 men serve as frontline troops. They are given an M-57 assault rifle and 24 rounds of ammunition which they are required to keep at home.

Once discharged, men serve in the Swiss equivalent of the US National Guard, but still have to train occasionally and are given bolt rifles. Women do not have to own firearms, but are encouraged to.

This is not quite correct. They are issued the current infantry weapon, although officers are issued a handgun. They then keep that same weapon as long as they are required to serve, and may purchase it for a really nominal fee when they are no longer required to serve. Thus the older men will have older rifles. That current issue weapon is currently the Stgw.90 (Sig 550) assault rifle, which fires the same round as the M-16, 5.56x45

The previous issue weapon was the Stgw. 57 (Sig 510_ which fired the 7.5x55 catridge.

Before that they issued the Schmidt-Rubin K31 bolt action rifle, which used the same 7.5x55 catridge.

The Stg . 57 went into service in 1958, the Stg. 90 was accepted as the new standard in 1983, but only went into full production in 1986.

Apparently the author should have posted “one of the lowest crime rates in the world”. The advantage of living their over some of the other “safer” countries is that no government will probably ever waltz into Switzerland and take over against the will of the people. Countries where the citizens have no right to bear arms are ripe for that. Just like we will be if this administration disarms us.
