ROVE: Because in 2007, President Obama, then a member of the United States Senate, voted against war funding for Iraq and Afghanistan. If this was so vital, then why did he not speak out? He was chairman of a committee overseeing NATO. He could have easily called a hearing to say, "I'm concerned about this issue." He did not. The Foreign Relations committee had three hearings on Afghanistan. He bothered to show up at one, and I can find no evidence he raised a single point or asked a single question. So President Obama is not in a place to be critical of, of this. He can look back and rewrite history, whatever, but at the time, he didn't speak out on this

Karl Rove stopped polling a week before the end of the election in 2000. As a result, he didn't catch the Gore surge that almost killed us in Florida. I remember being in Broward County in 2000. We didn't get a Broward office opened until late September of that year. Gore/Lieberman had been opened almost a month by that time, with the Unions going full bore. Hapless direction from the National office in Dallas and Jeb dropped the ball big time. But at bottom, it was Karl's fault. His "head fake" to California that year fooled no one on the Gore Campaign, who put all their money into FL and PA.

Bush's hapless defensive media strategy all through the 2000 campaign was one that doesn't bear duplicating, especially by Sarah Palin, who is conciously AVOIDING doing what Rove and Bush did.

The turnout model in 2004 was better because of Ken Mehlman's attention to the 72 Hour Plan, but Kerry really never should have come close.

Rove is oversold as a strategist, especially when it comes to media. He doesn't know how to do scorched earth, which is what the Democrats like Axelrod do.

Palin, for her part, has learned from the Democrats and Saul Alinsky. For all her grounding as a good Christian girl, you can see that she takes NO PRISONERS when it comes to politics.

I suspect she will be somewhat more successful than Karl was.
