Inside job....put the stuff on a flash drive and walk out. That’s what I think.
If that’s what the CRU honchos think then everyone is paranoid there now. Could their colleague be the leaker? Everyone is suspecting everyone else.

That has got to be a really DESPERATE EXCUSE,... Yes it is. But it is not new. They have been fending off Steve McIntyre's FOI requests with this excuse for some time.

Sure, ‘tis with glee!
—Con’t from other thread,
using keyword, “model mean climate AR4” yields like 686 results, which is cool(makes searching a tad easier).
In this one from Feb. ‘98, they share how-to advice on cooking the data.
http://www.eastangliaemails.com/emails.php?eid=47&filename=.txt
A short quote, “
The bottom line here is that consistency is impossible if one uses
only GHG patterns. Column 6 was included deliberately, and after some
thought (along the lines noted above).
Of course, it is possible to get column 6 results by adding
columns 2, 3, 4 and 5 as they now stand (and as they are in the version
that you have). However, one cannot do this with the correct *raw*
column 3, 4, and 5 output because of the nonlinear direct forcing effect.
It just happens that, in your version, I ‘faked up’ column 5 as the
difference between column 6 and the sum of columns 2, 3 and 4. I did this
simply to get the code working; but (as you now know) I never got around
to fixing it up until now. In the latest version, column 6 is again equal
to the sum of columns 2, 3, 4 and 5 because I scale columns 3, 4 and 5 to
ensure that this is so.”
well, shazam!
Take care, FRiends.

I think that the CRU and the university that sponsors them should be notified that they will be sued under international law for aiding and abetting the perpetration of a massive fraud on the rest of the world which resulted in untold billions of useless spending and emotional and traumatic suffering whilst having to listen to asswipes like ALGORE rant about 'de Planet! de Planet!'....Al Gore may be frog marched to the Hague before Bush. It definitely looks like the work of a whistleblower. A hacker would have gone for stuff of financial value or done it for some measure of notoriety.
The info released was specifically damaging to the CRU.

From the first link: "And I ask the Presidents and Prime Ministers again: how do you know the climate "scientists" briefing you are not fudging the data to hide inconvenient truths from you?"
Isn't it more likely that the politicians and fraudsters are in collusion for the purpose of relieving us all of our wallets?

Yes, and of our freedoms.
^^
another good keyword is “HadCM2”
it only produces 10 results, but they’re pretty meaty (on 1st skim/glancing read, anyways).

And it appears that Senator Inhofe OK, has this exact idea in mind (at least from a legal investigation of them). As I harp elsewhere, a lot of what we would term patriotic American Senators and HR must fall in line with Inhofe at this stage. Senator Boxers and the rest must be displayed as show cases... demonstrated to willingly undermine what is left of America's industrial and economic might. Let the line now be drawn in the sand. Your either for America or your not. Put these miserable bastards on the line. The L/MSM can only hold down so much. The whole Internet would have to be closed down to prevent hundreds of millions of people to not see what is going on at this point.
Not to appear crude intentionally, assholes like Al Gore had better be put in line soon. They must be disgraced and shown to be un-American for all to see.
As for zero man and his masters... will they bow out of this global warming sham, for sake of appearing concerned for the health of this nation and be willing to let the al bores to thrown under the proverbial buss is yet to be seen.

Meanwhile the propaganda flow from the AP continues...from yesterday's Local paper the Long Beach Press-Telegram :
Impact of global climate change speeds up
********************************EXCERPT***********************************
By Seth Borenstein, The Associated Press
WASHINGTON Since the 1997 international accord to fight global warming, climate change has worsened and accelerated - beyond some of the grimmest of warnings made back then.
As the world has talked for a dozen years about what to do next, new ship passages opened through the once frozen summer sea ice of the Arctic. In Greenland and Antarctica, ice sheets have lost trillions of tons of ice. Mountain glaciers in Europe, South America, Asia and Africa are shrinking faster than before.
And it's not just the frozen parts of the world that have felt the heat in the dozen years leading up to next month's climate summit in Copenhagen:
- The world's oceans have risen by about an inch and a half.
- Droughts and wildfires have turned more severe worldwide, from the U.S. West to Australia to the Sahel desert of North Africa.
- Species now in trouble because of changing climate include, not just the lumbering polar bear that has become a symbol of global warming, but also fragile butterflies, colorful frogs and entire stands of North American pine forests.
- Temperatures over the past 12 years are 0.4 of a degree warmer than the dozen years leading up to 1997.
Even the gloomiest climate models back in the 1990s didn't forecast results quite this bad so fast.
"The latest science is telling us we are in more trouble than we thought," said Janos Pasztor, climate adviser to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.
Andhere's why: Since an agreement to reduce greenhouse gas pollution was signed in Kyoto, Japan, in December 1997, the level of carbon dioxide in the air has increased 6.5 percent. Officials from across the world will convene in Copenhagen next month to seek a follow-up pact, one that President Barack Obama says "has immediate operational effect ... an important step forward in the effort to rally the world around a solution."
The last effort didn't quite get the anticipated results.

I agree with your post.
We need to DEAMND a thorough investigation of this research/scheme/HOAX!

It definitely looks like the work of a whistleblower. A hacker would have gone for stuff of financial value or done it for some measure of notoriety. The info released was specifically damaging to the CRU. I also think it was an inside whistle-blower. I'm thinking one of the junior researchers, on the basis of "who benefits":
- The whole AGW house of cards was going to come down soon anyway, as it became less and less possible to hide that we were in a cooling trend rather than a hockey-stick warming trend.
- No climate researcher could publish anything that didn't promote the AGW "Party Line". No climate researcher could even TRY to publish an anti-AGW paper and have his career survive.
- When it all came apart, all researchers who were long-time proponents of AGW would find their credibility irrevocably damaged.
- The older guys had already made their money, and had it socked away. They would just retire when the story became unsustainable, to someplace that had no extradition treaty.
- The younger researchers would be left holding the bag.
The younger researchers had every incentive to blow the whistle before they were left holding the bag.

Isn't it more likely that the politicians and fraudsters are in collusion for the purpose of relieving us all of our wallets? The politicians are the ones DEMANDING that AGW be made to seem true, as an excuse to grab money and power. Being pro-AGW was a condition of receiving government grant money.
Of course, once it's all exposed as a sham, the biggest culprits will be first in line to throw the researchers to the wolves, screaming "We were MISLED!"
