There, I ate the bean dish (with ham). Now I’ll have my vitamins, which do better after a fairly heavy meal.
And of course, it’s nearly lunchtime already, in the Grand Scheme of Things. Offspring will start nagging by about 10:15!

And a kitten! What more could I want, except to put all the people in suspended animation so I could take a nap with the baby and the kitten ...

Its hard to separate the slices when the loaf is frozen solid. Try a hatchet. Or a chainsaw.

The sun is shining, but there is a storm on the way, and the night is going to be ugly, ugly, ugly.

A couple of hours at room temperature did the trick.

"A couple of hours at room temperature did the trick." Indeed. It is said to have a remarkably calming effect.

"The sun is shining, but there is a storm on the way, and the night is going to be ugly, ugly, ugly." My suggestion: Watch the fireworks on TV. You get a better view, anyway, and there's usually music.

No way I’m staying up that late! I’ll hear the fireworks, anyway, but I’ll catch them on the morning news without having to put up with constant chatter from the talking heads trying to shout louder than the drunks.

If my schedule had permitted it, I would have tuned in to a very nice concert in Vienna in celebration of the new year.
The arrival of the new year is a local event, but it takes twenty-four hours to work its way around the planet.

Yup. Over half the world is there already. Vienna is not, though.

Tehran is -- though of course their New Year is Norooz, almost 3 months away. But the news is
not good.
