RE: "Nixon had a large role in the cancellation of their show on CBS. Much like Obamas enemies list against conservative opinion folks."

I know that Tom Smothers is quoted as saying “When Nixon said, ‘I want those guys off,’ they were off.”

Remember there was a "Fairness Doctrine." Opinion had to be "balanced," though it was 99-percent applied to radio only. To the extent that the Nixon administration acted it was likely to have been the FCC's "fairness doctrine" route.

To wit, "Smothers Brothers soon found themselves battling their network and the FCC for the right to say what they wanted on their own show."

There's plenty of documentation about how JFK/LBJ liberals used the "fairness doctrine" to shut down conservative talk -- I still shudder thinking of AM radio of those days, almost nothing but Top-40 -- Mr. Talk Radio was Larry "You don't want higher taxes, don't you love your Country?" King if I remember correctly.

I am not trying to start an argument it's just Nixon's ability to "get away with it" was virtually nil compared with the near total control Obama has over the state controlled American media (SCAM). The Clintons' had pretty good control also -- except for whatzhername none of the Clinton shenanigans had legs.

Truthfully, I think that Jillette will ponder this for a while, and then he will realize that he has long stood for reason and rationality, and what Tommy Smothers wanted him to do was give that up, and emotionally hate someone, not because their ideas are wrong, but because they are “the enemy.”

Years ago, the use of propaganda to support war was even taught in school, often by liberals. One of their big points was that the purpose of propaganda was to make people discard reason, so they could dehumanize their enemy and hate them. At the time, their purpose was to convince children not to curse and dehumanize the Vietnamese, because behind all the rhetoric, the Vietnamese were still human beings.

And they were right. Only the vicious, the brutes, the people who are controlled by their emotions, resort to such hatred, and define their world as racially “us vs. them”. To them, their enemies are lower than animals, they do not feel pain, and to hurt or kill them should not cause remorse or regret, any more than taking out the trash. They are disgusting and disposable. Men, women and children.

So in a way, Tommy Smothers is no different from racists, or religious fanatics like Wahabbis. He is full of hate for people he will not listen to, because for him they are “the enemy”. Likewise, he will apologize for and accept anything done by “his side”, no matter how horrible, because what his side does is always right.

But if you are a person of reason and intellect, you see the failure of this way of life. There is no “reason” in racism. There is no “logic” in fanaticism.

Jillette is an atheist, because no one has “proven” that God exists to his satisfaction. He is pro-homosexual, because he sees no “reason” that he should not be. As such, Jillette cannot change, to accept raw, unthinking emotion over reason. His rationality cannot accept that idea.

Nor can Tommy Smothers ever listen to anything Glenn Beck says, no matter how reasonable, intelligent, well thought out, and factually correct, because Tommy Smothers is not a creature of reason. Nor is he emotionally mature enough to be any better than a fanatic on the street with a sign that says “Behead those who say Islam is not the religion of Peace!”

...Ohhh, not trying to start an argument huhhhh???(-;)

...I agree with yer. Grew up with the Brothers Smothers. Had “The Two Sides” and a couple other albums in the sixties. Had piano and Spanish guitars with nylon strings when I turned 8 years in 1960, along with lessons for a few years. I was into the AM radio, listening to the early rock and roll, jazz, blues, and comedy spots in the wee hours of the morning. Brother Dave, Cosby, Carlin and Tom and Dicky. These guys were the for front of my adolesence and into my liberal years. Joe Pyne was the talk master then...

...As my friend, the Late comic Willie Hicks said, this is a distraction by Obama on FOX, Limbaugh and Beck, to take our minds off of the important issues that he’s jamming into law. I’m aware, but not distracted by all this BS...

...BTW, I love a good, heated argument on FR, about the issues, but, it’s not personal. Just fun...

I'd say the problem is that liberals aren't really liberals. They're radical leftists. Penn is a true liberal. He really buys into the idea that Beck has a right to say whatever he wants. He's a genuinely tolerant atheist and is open-minded enough that he can allow himself to agree with Beck if that's where the facts lead. That Beck is a Morman doesn't color Penn's view in the least. The truth is the truth. I wish everyone that labeled themselves liberal were like Penn. We'd be much better off as a nation, IMO.

Just quoting your post because it's so good. The radicals have changed the language.

Liberals are really leftists
Environmentalism just control
Health care advocates just control
Animal rights advocates just control
Sense a pattern?
