Agree. The window of opportunity was about thirty or forty years ago. As you correctly pointed out, there are now too many transplants from the upper Midwest here. Perversely, while grateful for our inclusiveness, they are contemptuous of our ways and want to recreate Texas into Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, etc, states they had to leave because of their corruptness and anti-business economic policies. Back to Texas succession though; if this movement should have any possibility of success it would be by carving the state in two - an East Texas which would stay in the union and a West Texas which would succeed, with the demarcation line running north/south somewhere between Fort Worth and Abilene. West Texas has long felt alienated from East Texas both politically and culturally; especially the more urban sector that runs along the DWF/Austin/San Antonio/Houston triangle.
The question is not whether Texas can stand by itself, but rather should it. The strong steady hand of Texas is needed now in Washington more than ever...”Baby please don’t go.”
Texas isn’t going anywhere with regards to this seccession talk. This got some media hoopla when Perry brought it up trying to get his campaign for Gov. back on track. Texas has always had some group or other talking seccession or a Republic of Texas formation.
There is one candidate out there, [Larry Kilgore - http://www.larrykilgore.com/Larry_Kilgore/Welcome.html ], who is running as a seccessionist this time in the GOP primary. He’s ran twice and will get some votes.
