That is correct. However he was eligible for the office of POTUS.
As a white conservative I would certainly expect it. I imagine that conservative candidates will have to wear laminated copies of their birth certificates for the next several election cycles.
Drew68, Article VI, Clause 2 of the U.S. Constitution, declares "This Constitution . . . shall be the supreme Law of the Land." You may find it surprising to know that the Constitution does not apply to we the People. Rather, it applies to people in the government. The Constitution contains the rules and regulation for how these people may govern us. Thus, the Constitution enumerates what powers they may have, how they may tax us and, most relevant to the discussion here, it states the requirement for the President to be a "natural born citizen." Now, Drew68, given the seriousness of the concerns of the "birthers," whether Mr. Obama is constitutionally qualified to be president is indeed "an important constituional matter that must be addressed," preferably in the Supreme Court. That is, unless you believe Mr. Obama is above "the supreme Law of the Land."
Besides, did you ever hear Mr. Obama publicly state in his inimatable oratorical style words to the effect: "I will state from the outset that I have fulfilled the Unitied States Constitution's requirement for a president to be a natural born citizen of the United States. Therefore, I am qualified to be the President. Nonetheless, I am aware that some, perhaps many, dispute these facts. I am also aware that the Constitution does not explicitly define "natural born citizen." Whether I am indeed a natural born citizen is therefore a question of constitutuional law that is best decided upon in a proper Court of Law. I hope one day I may address this question in such a venue and finally put to rest these questions, speculations and suspicions-- all nonsense, as far as I am concerned-- about my qualification for the presidency. I say, bring on the lawsuits!"
Drew68, as far as I know, Mr. Obama has never said anything like this. I do know, however, that instead of being forthcoming about his citizenship, he has spent over one million dollars to hide all his records concerning his birth, education, health, travels abroad and even his term while State Senator. What do you really know about him? He talks about all things related to economics. Did he major in Economics? Did he even take Economics 101? I don't know. He is a heavy smoker, so what is the condition of his health? I don't know. As the Commander in Chief, who is in charge of the most powerful military in history, what is his military background? Did he even register for the draft? I don't know.
In any event, everything indicates that Mr. Obama is NOT America's first African-American President. Rather, he is America's first African-Indonesion President who is also America's first Affirmative Action President and who considers himself, as some, if not many, also considers, above "the Supreme Law of the Land."
