A few years ago was when I first heard about the substantial Somali community up in Seattle. They had several people who were treated for carbon monoxide poisoning, and a few of them died.

The problem?

When it got cold, they did what they knew to do back home...they lit a brazier of charcoal and everyone in the family settled in to sleep around it. They had no idea what a thermostat was or how to use it.

The solution that was being bandied about was to require Kindsford charcoal to put warning labels on the bags in Somali. At the time, the warnings were only in English and Spanish, and at first that was what was blamed for a couple of those deaths, not the fact that they could not read English.

Of course now we have moved on from that story....

uh huh (raising hand), that would be me....Worthington. Though I haven’t seen many of them right in this area, I’m aware of the influx...all refugee status, aren’t they? My concern where I’m at is what I DO see...all the gang tags that are going up all around me.

The Germans and the Swedish assimilated to a point but they kept their culture and their language too. My father was the third generation German and could speak German because his dad did and his grandfather did. Linsbburge is known as the little Sweden of the Midwest and Hillsbourg is still heavy German culture and language. So did the Jews the Irish and the Italians of New York assimilated or did they make their own little Burg's and called them German town or little Italy? Every new immigrant is held to disdain by the established immigrants of our nation just ask the Irish or even the Vietnam folks who came here in the 70’s after the war. Saw many a signs that said no gooks allowed. Just like the Irish need not apply for this job signs. The USA is a big country lots of room left to roam and set down roots. The only reason many come and stay on the coast is because those who came before them did not move into the interior of the country. That is where the Germans came the rolling planes of the Midwest was a lot like home to them and they liked it. Unless your 100 percent indigenous person then you are a immigrant too.

I agree that we are all immigrants and this is not my issue. My main concern is stopping the one’s who are terrorists, like the one I am having to deal with now. I will have more info to share soon. Also, I am not looking for a free ride, I don’t have a paypal account so I have to send a money order to donate. FEAR NOT!! I WILL CONTRIBUTE! I guess that goes out to everyone?
