Indonesia may not recognize dual citizenship, but the U.S. does.

Not when it pertains to meeting the eligibility requirements for President it doesn't.

Wouldn’t the question of loyalty be enough to cause Obama to hide his records if he held Indonesian citizenship for an extended period of time? If voters thought he had divided loyalty, that would be a blow to his electability.

OK, let's say that is true. It appears there is strong evidence that Obama went to Pakistan (well after 18) as an Indonesian citizen on an Indonesian passport. This would have been tantamount to proclaiming Indonesian citizenship as an adult. Also, he is guilty of perjury if he signed a statement saying he has used no other names in his Illinois Senate application. You also have to answer this question in a passport application.

1) Obama appears to have gone to Pakistan.

2) There have been allegations that there was some kind of State Department prohibition on travel to Pakistan at the time of Obama’s trip. I have seen no proof of that. If someone has proof in the form or a State Department advisory, or any other official State Department documents, please publish it on the web, or post a URL that shows that proof. Until I see the proof I remember that you can claim anything on the Internet. Proving there was no prohibition is impossible, since you can't prove a negative.

3) If anyone has proof that he used an Indonesian passport, show the proof on that as well. That seems to be another Internet rumor.

4) If the U.S. recognizes dual citizenship, I know of no law that prohibits an American citizen from using a foreign passport to which he has a legitimate right under the law of a foreign country. If someone has a code section or law, please cite. Since it is so difficult to actually renounce your American citizenship I truly doubt that the simple act of using an Indonesian passport (and the use itself is still in doubt) would be sufficient to renounce his American citizenship.

5) The perjury issues are interesting and could be investigated, but the statute of limitations may prevent prosecution. Does he have a current law license? I personally would have a problem with a perjurer being President of the United States, statute of limitations or not, but the Bill Clinton case indicates that the American people do not.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who has had that thought. And maybe the Kenyan birth rumor was started by an 0bama operative in order to discredit ANYONE who questions his birth certificate for whatever reason.

If that's the case and it works, it was a super slick piece of misdirection and subterfuge.

Oh definitly, the press and most of his party don’t know and don’t care as long as they are in power. They are a bunch of whores and don’t care how they got in power, as long as they got there. Problem is that the whole administration may be illegal if he is deemed to be occupying the White House illegally. That’s why I never combine the two words, “President” and obama together. I don’t believe it and it’s an insult to the office and to the country and it’s history.

The question is how does an adoption and citizenship in a foreign country affect one’s natural born status?

Zero was born British, and later spent his years in Indonesia. Indonesia law prohibits dual-citizenship, so he had to lose his British citizenship.

Zero never had natural-born U.S. citizenship status

No, never heard that pregnant State Department employees are advised to evacuate to the States to give birth.

is a widely held belief

Quit arguing in technical, legalese terms.
Clearly, Zero's father was Kenyan, he was born in Kenya, and his citizenship automatically transferred to Zero at birth. I don't care what the "courts" say.

Nice non-sequitiur, {sic} but it’s not related to the topic.

It is not a non-sequitur when you cite Indonesian law in your argument.

"And maybe the Kenyan birth rumor was started..."

Nah....the fact is we don't know where he was born. Kenya, Washington, Canada, Hawaii.....Until he releases his longform Birth Certificate we can only speculate.

That may well be, but I want to see more background. Our President has revealed less about himself than any major politician in recent memory. I think it is important for the electorate to be well informed. If there's no skeletons, open the closet, and then we'll just talk politics.

What you say is valid, and it would remain valid even if tomorrow he pulls all the proof of citizenship out of whatever hidey hole he put it in. Saying that he is an American does not mean I like having him as President. I wouldn't like Louis Farrakhan or Bill Ayers as President either. But they both qualify under the Constitution.

"It isn't that simple. Is dual citizenship a problem? My understanding is that US citizens have to "forsake all others." "

It get's a little complicated. The "foresake all others" probably comes from a line in the US Oath of Citizen ship that reads something like..."I absolutely and entirely renounce and all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince...".

So, when you apply for US citizenship, you are effectively "renouncing" your allegiance to other countries and presumably you citizen privileges as well. But, as a practical matter, it doesn't work like that.

Moreover, when another country confers upon you citizenship status (and you are a citizen at birth) either through principles known as Jus soli or jus sanguinis, it has absolutely no effect on your American citizenship status - none, zero, zip, nada.

Whether it has any effect on a persons status as a natural born citizen as it relates to presidential eligibility is another matter all-together. I would argue that if it's obtained as a minor child, then it wouldn't. I would also argue that if it was obtained as an adult, then it would.

But, that's an opinion - and an opinion I could probably argue equally well from both sides. And, until a court actually takes up the matter, which none have chosen to do up until this point, that's all it will be - someone's opinion.

"Department employees are advised to remove to the United States to give birth, in order to transmit natural-born citizenship to their offspring."

My wife has given birth to two of our children overseas, while I was serving in the Navy. And, for one of those births, I was actually assigned to a foreign embassy. With respect to "citizenship rights or eligibility", I have never been advised to move my wife back stateside so that she can give birth on US soil. Nor, have I have ever heard (in almost 25 years of service) of anyone else being advised to do so. I think you've been given some bad information.

Not when it pertains to meeting the eligibility requirements for President it doesn't.

Two classes of citizens - natural born and naturalized. To be naturalized you have to fulfill certain requirements in the naturalization laws and take an oath. Naturalized citizens do not qualify under Article II to become President. Natural born do. All natural born citizens have equal rights under the Fourteenth Amendment. Which includes the right to become President. You're born in the U.S., you're natural born.

That's the way the law has read from 1788. For over 220 years. With no distinction made for qualification for the Presidency. I can understand the desire that Obama be removed somehow from the Presidency, but I'm not going to throw the rule of law under the bus. The wacky Internet law theories will never make it into court, except to be thrown out immediately. Recognize that. Why? Because the wacky Internet law theories have never been the law.

I'm not impressed with Bluegrass Pundit's evidence of an adoption. The divorce filing is just a pre-printed form filled out by an attorney which has no box on it to differentiate step-children from adopted children.

I don't know where BO was born or why no witnesses to his birth or early days have come forward, but it is becoming increasingly apparent that there are embarrassing details that are somehow being kept under wraps.

Take it up with FReeper John Valentine and/or FReeper conservativegramma, OldDeckHand.

What is your position on the natural-born citizenship requirement for eligibility to the office of President, by the way?

Do you support original intent, or do you support the various attempts to remove the requirement, and open the Presidency to naturalized citizens?

There's a proposal sponsored by Orrin Hatch, co-sponsored by Tom Coburn and Dana Rohrabacher, that is still under consideration in the Senate Judiciary Committee, by Hatch's "Panel 2," or so I've understood.

Does anyone know if Obama’s maternal grandfather still alive?

Interesting. His maternal Grandmother, living in Hawaii, died while his campaign was underway. He left her in cold storage for weeks before he went to Hawaii, then spent days there before attending a memorial service for her. Very strange. The only one in Hawaii who could get his long form, died during his campaign. His paternal grandmother is alive, and witnessed his birth in Kenya, according to interivew you can listen to, the hospital in Mombasa, Kenya has erected a statue to their ‘Native Son’, in front of the hospital he was born in...of course, the MSM will not investigate it...wonder why????
