All it will do is get car dealers to inflate their prices #4,500.00.

We are about to be taught how easy it is to abuse this law. A lot of people are going to become rich thanks to this moronic law passed by the buffoons on Capitol Hill.

And put people further into debt. After all, people with "clunkers" are probably those more likely to have financial problems already.

Here’s the amusing part...people may take advantage of it....buy Fords, Nissans, Toyotas, and such....and not even touch GM or Chrysler.

Actually, I think it will make the dealers less likely to offer some of their profit margin to make the sale!

Here in Germany the government offers 2,500 Euro (appx $3,500) if you buy a new car and scrap one that is at least nine years old.

As I have written elsewhere this makes sense here as for most of the people I know, as well as myself, the price of the cars we are looking to buy, this amounts to a REBATE of the 19% VAT. I don't know if this way by design or luck, but, under the EU laws no country can have a VAT of less then 15%. So, in effect, Germany is telling potential car buyers that there is a TAX HOLIDAY. What is not to like?

Ditto from my ‘57 Bel Air and ‘67 Camaro. No stinkin smog checks for me either. I just got tired of unfixable new cars that depreciate.

The Bill only applies to 1984 and later models.

I guess they pulled that number out of their asses, just like the Minimum Wage and the CAFE Standards.

We are ruled by Narcissistic Fools and Idiots.

Would be a good time to be a dealer with a lot of $500.00 junkers. Sell them for $1500.00 to the people who can use them to get a $4500.00 discount. Everybody’s happy... if you don’t count the taxpayer who takes it in the shorts.

The buyer has to have owned the clunker for the prior 12 months, have it registered with the state, etc. So it won’t do any good to buy someone elses clunker. The unintended consequences of this will be interesting. I suspect dealers will chop shop the clunkers salvageable parts before crushing it.

I’d think that the price of the junker would approach $4500.

And that’d make it awful hard to find a functional car for less than $4500.

I thought that Obama cared about poor people.
