And here's an interesting an entertaining use of a cello (and that white boy's got soul, too!)

Sorry! Cut and paste will have to do you.

"There's a whole pile of these youtube guitar players who do the Michael Hedges thing with the tapping. It looks impressive but they all sound interchangeably bland. I'll take a good 3 or 4 chord song banged out with gusto over bland ethereal oatmeal any day of the week."

Couldn't agree more.

I know. I studied Indian music with Ali Akbar Khan and Shankar Ghosh, and have listened to many hundreds of hours of it. I would still bet that he is both heavily influenced by the culture of Indian music and sitar, and in fact plays (or played) the sitar, but maybe found the guitar easier to ‘sound good on’.

Looks like I was wrong. He is apparently Iranian, and works out of Toronto. Unmistakably, though, the opening sounds from that guitar were very much reminiscent of a Ravi Shankar raga.

You got to wait for the last half for guitar solo, but it is worth it...Atlantic Rhythm Section guitarist Steve Stone (I think not Barry Bailey)??

The subject of the post is slightly on the good side of mediocre - but Guthrie Govan is great, as always.

Maybe someone can help me.

Years ago I heard Chopin's "Fantasie" Impromptu played on a classical guitar, never was able to track it down.

Hope some of you guitar buffs can steer me in the right direction.

Pat Metheny - Theme from 'Polski Drogi' (Polish Roads) Live from Warsaw

This tune was taken from a Polish 70s mini-series about the German occupation of Poland during WWII.

I've been a "Pat Head" for about 30 years now, going all the way back to "The White Album."

I am a very big Metheny fan; especially since I had the pleasure of doing his live sound engineering in 1979 for a few concerts. They were just a 4 piece at the time (including Lyle Mayes) but they were incredible. And such gentlemen.

If you like Lyle, check out "Street Dreams".

Other good albums: "As Falls Wichita, so falls Wichita Falls"; also the original "Full Circle" album is great.
