The bottom dropped out right around the time that it was clear that Obama would probably be elected and the Democrats would be rolling up much larger majorities in both houses of Congress. At that point the investor class began to sense that it was about to be looted by Washington to fund the Democrats’ populist nonsense.
The mortgage crisis would still have happened if America had elected a president with free market smarts and given him a like-minded Congress. But the damage would have not been as severe and recovery would have been much quicker.
But the fundamentals of the economy are definitely stronger now than they were in September. LOL!
