Thanks for that link. As a collector of Atari related relics, I am ashamed to say that I have a *real* copy of #1 on that list :-)!

In all seriousness, I really hope you guys take the Wii to the next level. There has been a lull in “good”, new software available for that box. Punch Out is one of those titles that could work well in both a “classic” mode for those of us who loved that game but prefer to get fat as well as a WiiMote mode for those that like exercising while playing :-) . I really hope Nintendo doesn’t blow it with that game.

I saw Nintendo was looking for hardware engineers earlier this year...if I wasn’t tied to where I am living right now, I would have fired off a resume in a heartbeat...I am an FPGA designer by trade. Video games are what got me into engineering :-)!

Also my friend’s company just got a good line of credit from the bank. So credit’s available out there if you know where to look.

Also I’m debt free right now. My credit report’s biggest complaint is that I don’t use enough credit.

So far the only thing we are seeing is a lot of fat cutting. That in itself is good new. I hate waste.

The best way to cheer up is put down the media and get into your city. Unless it is Detroit, you will probably see lots of people busily going about their lives as always. I find BurgerKing to be very encouraging. The workers there care nothing about economic news and don't own portfolios. The customers there are everything from the needy to yuppies. I don't know why but just seeing everyone busy really cheers me up.

My husband just located his ol hunting dog at the pound and he still had his tracking collar on. We may be broke but he’s happy he found ol Charlie alive. Now if we can just break him out of da joint.

I’m going to the pet store after work to get an updated tag so that doesn’t happen again.

Life ain’t all bad if you have your health and family. Merry Christmas!

We’re doing fine. My husband works for an extremely-low-end retail chain ... what one would call a recession-proof job. We bought a house we could afford even in a downturn. We have a car and a van paid off, and a reasonable payment on the truck. The Salvation Army Store has new (to me) Fundamentalist Frump Frocks on the rack every couple of weeks. Wal-mart’s just up the street.

Eight kids, going on nine, seven pets, not counting the fish, no worries. Merry Christmas!

"Your conclusions are spot on, jive with my thinking as well, but your Obama takes office the new Ministry of Propaganda (formerly the media) is priceless."

Thank you! I am not allowed to watch the news w/Mrs Villiany anymore b/c I get so wound up watching the Superlative Show* and frequently provide my own commentary.

*The Superlative Show - the all-too-common approach of the talking (empty)heads using superlatives in a lame attempt to make the story newsworthy or to fit their agenda.
Examples would include "the best", "the worst", "the greatest", "the saddest", etc...
They will often carry it to the point of absurdity such as saying things like "the worst..." in the opening of the story - and then only later on do they qualify it with actual information such as when compared to apples, orange, and grapes.

Well, our company’s annual raises are on hold but we’ve got jobs. I’ll be making up for the raise elsewhere. My mortgage payment is going to go down! Twenty percent reduction in property taxes because of qualifying for the owner occupied designation will save me $100 a month. Switching all my insurance over to USAA will save me another $45 a month. Cancelled extended cable saves me $15 a month. Dropped Netflix for another $5. Gas at $1.62 at last fillup is a definite savings as well.

I think this might bring a lot of people down to reality, and force them to start focusing on the things that are important, like family, and stop putting all of their effort into attainment of material things, and living outside of their means. This downturn could turn out to be benefical in that way.

In a big way. I've sat back and watched so much greed and materialism over the past 5 years that I've felt disappointed in people. The 80's wasn't the decade of greed - it was the decade of working people finally reaping the benefits of their hard work due to tax cuts. But these last few years have been out and out uninhibited greed and materialism - all built on a nonexistent foundation of credit and debt. I've seen some friends with decent incomes buy huge houses, all new furniture to go with it, expensive video games for the kids - there's no way they could afford all that without getting into debt. And schools encourage the entitlement attitude with their liberal indoctrination. Even parents with good values have a hard time passing them along (unless they homeschool).

We've come a long way from the Greatest Generation and the attitude of you don't need something if you can't pay for it. I hope you're right and this depression will kick us back into the old rugged individualism we used to have.

Yes. I mved all of my retirement into bonds and securities last November and have ridden out this entire mess at 4-5% interest.

In addition, due to a large decrease in demand, and the prospect for the US drilling much more of its own oil and becoming much more energy independent, OPEC's prices have dropped drastically and here in Idaho we are in the $1.30s for gas. Hope it holds, but would not count on it too long after Obama comes in.

Finally, with interest rates so low, and if you're crdit rating is good, there are beaucoup offers out there for zero percent interest for 12-15 months for credit, allowing people to transfer higher rate debt onto much lower...and then going to 8-9% interest after the introductory period.

Lots of silver linings like that out there.

I agree with you....today’s news is a lot better than this thread would suggest. Amazon had their BEST Christmas Season sales EVER. GMAC is now a bank and the 50% of US dealers who were in trouble now have credit again. Car Buyers will never have it this good again in their lives!
