but marked Fra-gil-e

Yes! It was even printed on the box at an angle like it should be! (The poor FedEx guy probably wondered what the heck I was laughing at... it's probably just a coincidence he seemed in an awfully big hurry to get out of here...)

Unbelievably, I ordered it yesterday afternoon and FedEx was on my porch about 3pm today. Thanks again for the link. :D

I ordered the DVD from Amazon.com; about $13...it plays all day on TNT (I think) on Christmas Day but I want to watch it before then.

We picked up the DVD a couple of years ago and watch it year-round. Yet we still leave the channel on the 24-hour marathon through Christmas. I guess it’s a tradition at this point. :)

It’s become part of our vocabulary... the neighbors have a seemingly never-ending supply of dogs so they’re the Bumpuses, whenever Hubby works on the furnace he always shouts at some point, “It’s a clinker!”, the “honors and benefits” line gets recited for darn near anything, etc. lol

(When The Old Man is talking about the guy that won a bowling alley, listen for him to mispronounce Terre Haute. Hoosiers always catch that. lol)

I’m glad to know somebody who enjoys it as much as I do. I emember when things looked like they do in the movie. The Christmas tree lot nnd the Santa line bring back memories...so does washing mouths out with soap!

I wish I did. I think I was born too late. :(

I did use the movie (and others set in the same period) for reference when I redid our kitchen. Most people's kitchens go forward in time but mine goes backwards. lol When they see it, people either think it's really cool or that I've completely lost my mind (my own mother said, "It's awfully... dated, don't you think?"), but it's been loads of fun!

Here's hoping washing mouths out with soap never goes out of style! :D

I don't have metal kitchen cabinets but they are about 50 years old...I live in the then 5-year-old house my parents bought in 1963. Last Spring I had to replace the original stove top and oven because the parts were no longer available to repair either. I preferred both to the new ones.

While I was at it I stripped the cabinets and restained them. I didn't want to paint the wood because I like the grain. I am framing old family photos and hanging them around the kitchen...my favorite is a "group shot" of my 10th birthday party (1949). I love it because it is in black and white. A new service station had been built on the corner (it's still there) and there is a big sign that says, "Humble" that eventually became ENCO, then ESSO, (or vice-versa) and finally, EXXON.
