I agree on the USS Pampanito. If you like garlic, The Stinking Rose is real good. If you don’t like garlic, they’ll also prepare dishes vampire style!

Whatever you do, just cover your butt...figuratively and literally.

Yerba Buena Center in the SOMA area has a great rubberized playground for children. Unless there is a field trip going on your son will have the place to himself as there are few children in SF. There's a merry-go-round, children's museum, ice skating rink, bowling alley, nice park with a waterfall you can walk behind, a Sony mall with movie theaters and video arcade, and across the street is a beautiful Catholic church. Next to that is Beard Papa, a Japanese chain bakery with the best chocolate covered cream puffs you will ever have. My favorite restaurant there is Max's a few blocks away, serves large portions using the best ingredients. Generally stay away from the touristy restaurants as they don't count on any repeat business. The good restaurants do not advertise in the tourist brochures so use that as one indicator. Look for crowds of locals rather than tourists.

SF is a great city,,,but not all of it. wouldn’t hurt to recite the lords prayer while you are walking around.

For an incredible view, go to Sutro Heights Park, just up the hill from Louis' restaurant (pronounced Louie's), at Ocean Beach. You will be blown away by the panoramic vista (there's parking right across from Louis'). Louis' itself is a hole in the wall (more or less), but has comfort food and a great view of Seal Rock and the ocean, and the ruins of Sutro Baths.
For other oceanview restaurants, there are two restaurants at the Cliff House (but way more expensive - Sutro's and the Bistro), just a few steps down the hill from Louis'. And further on down the beach there's the Beach Chalet (along with its Park Chalet on the non-view side). Anywhere on the beach, if the weather's good, you'll see surfers.
Sutro Heights Park, Louis', and the Cliff House are all within a few steps of each other, as are the ruins of the Sutro Baths. The Cliff House also has a gift shop. There's a free parking lot across from Louis'.
And, of course, you can kick off your shoes and walk along the beach. The Zoo is also at the Beach.
Louis' - 902 Point Lobos Ave (at the Ocean)
Sutro's at the Cliff House (they also have the Bistro) - 1090 Point Lobos Ave
Beach Chalet - 1000 Great Highway - check out the dozens & dozens of frescoes, all in a 1930's style - very cool
Park Chalet - 1000 Great Highway (just on the other side of the Beach Chalet - one restaurant faces the ocean, the other restaurant faces the park
San Francisco Zoo - 47th Ave & Sloat Ave (one block from the beach)

I heard there is a lively bar scene in the Castro district.
