Congressmen and Senators I’m sure invest in a lot a things. Sometimes they may profit from decisions they make, sometimes they might not. Let me first say so that there is no misunderstanding, I dislike Nancy Pelosi very much! I do not like her in anyway, shape or form. But, personally, I do not have a problem with anyone, no matter who it is, profiting from something that is beneficial to our country. I wish I owned some stock in a wind turbine company or owned land where one could be put! You bet!

In answer to your second point, T. Boone is 70 something yrs old and he is already a billionaire, how much more money do your think or needs or has time to enjoy? He could just go off to his ranch and live out the rest of his days in peaceful security. That is your belief that is his motive. I can’t judge his motives any more than you can.

Also wind power is only part of PickensPlan. The wind power is only to allow us enough time to develop better technologies that are already in the works such as the fuel cell, electric, and biofuel vehicles. His long-term plan also calls for extensive nuclear power expansion. Mind you he probably has his hands in ALL of these technologies. I have already dealt with that complication in my own mind and have dispatched it.

How do I know it is a good plan? To me it just makes sense, and I haven’t heard of a better plan. It it perfect? No plan ever is. Are there problems/complications? Yes. We are faced with a complex situation. There is no easy fix for our prediciment. But we have to do something and we have to do it now! If we are going to argue politics and draw party lines on every issue we will always get where we have always gotten, nowhere!

We have to take a comprehensive approach to this issue, which includes drilling. So, there is no need to put Pickens in opposition to drilling. This is not an either or neither approach. We need to do it all.

Leb, I really don’t care if you like or hate Pelosi. I’m not giving this a pass. If you have the power to pass legislation that makes you money that is a conflict of interest. If by blocking oil exploration and supporting government give-aways to “green” energy sources in which she has investments, that is a conflict of interest. Al Gore is doing the same thing when he goes around peddling his “carbon offsets” after setting up a company that sells “carbon offsets.” It’s really no more complicated than that.

Look, for Pickens money is simply a counter. But it’s a big counter. You make him sound like an altruist. OK, Mr. Altruist, start a wind farm and sell the power. Why put on TV ads and get your friends in congress to pass you a subsidy? I can and will judge his motives when I see him wanting to pick my pocket for his personal gain.

Also wind power is only part of PickensPlan. The more you write, the more I am convinced that you are either a front for Pickens or too incredibly naive to be allowed to leave home alone.

But my friend, don’t you realize that it’s politics that has gotten us to this point? It’s politics that has stopped us from exploring for oil in the US. It’s politics that have stopped nuclear plants from being built. It’s politics that has prevented any new refineries from being built. It's politics that is preventing us from exploiting shale oil and prevented the increased use of coal. What in the world do you think has gotten us into this mess?

We have to take a comprehensive approach to this issue, which includes drilling. So, there is no need to put Pickens in opposition to drilling. This is not an either or neither approach. We need to do it all.

Sigh!

Ok, Pelosi has a conflict of interest. It doesn’t make the plan bad. Why scrap a good plan because of her conflict of interest? Let’s impeach her. http://www.thepetitionsite.com/takeaction/503157737

You can think what you want of Pickens, but he ain’t asking for nothing out of your pocket or from the government.

Yes, politics got us to this point. But does it make sense to let politics keep us here? I find it odd that people are all up in arms about high gas prices but they won’t work together for a common sense solution. We have to learn how to work together.

And talk about a conflict of interest and government subsidies, it looks like all the things you propose only line the pockets of big oil (which our government has BIG ties to) and pollute the air and the environment. Too much time, politics, & money involved in all of those things. About the only one we should pursue is nuclear power. But people have strong feelings about that, so that’s iffy. We just have to figure out a way to handle the radioactive waste.

"Someone is going to profit no matter what we do"

That's right; but when the plan is only "profitable" with massive taxpayer subsidies, severe increases in energy costs due to the HIDDEN costs of having to provide added infrastructure and FOSSIL-FUELED generation to back up the low-load factor/non-dependable capacity the windmills produce (when the wind blows only), then it's not the best economic alternative.

Without massive taxpayer dollar infusion, these "Green Enegy" plans are not cost-effective, and would not be produced.

As in all things; FOLLOW THE MONEY.

Global Warming is intended to allow massive Carbon Trading by the largest polluters in the world, and YOU will fund it with your energy bills AND be taxed to subsidize development.

Americans do NOT do their homework, but jump on trendy ideas like "cleaning up the planet" and "reducing dependence on oil", when it's all about which Lobbyist stands to gain and donates the most to re-elect those who would steer Legislation that they will reap benefits from. NO Lobbyist is there for any other purpose than to fill his employer's pockets with a BIG return on the investment in Lobbying. Look at how the Unions funnel taxpayer money (via their government employment) right back to those who fund their jobs and benefits. That's how it works now.

"You can think what you want of Pickens, but he ain’t asking for nothing out of your pocket or from the government."

I hope you're not serious about that statement.

Without Legislation to allow TBP to do what he wants, he loses. IF Legistlation is passed to favor his projects, then the fallout is the accomodation of the new "Rules" by utilities and energy producers, and YOU will pay through the nose. (see my post #24)
