Blue Water Navy update.
Click on pic for past Navair pings.
Post or FReepmail me if you wish to be enlisted in or discharged from the Navair Pinglist.
The only requirement for inclusion in the Navair Pinglist is an interest in Naval Aviation.
This is a medium to low volume pinglist.

Don’t know if you’d run across this one or not, but I thought that a Medical type might bring something to the party.
No, I’m not one of the AO cases; Got a few friends and in-laws who are. Only medical complaints I got were a busted collarbone and a little whine about never passing one of those da** colorblind tests.
Just some quick data points: Vapor Distillation units operate in a low pressure/lower temperature regime - and normal ranges for operation might have the distillate at about 180 - 190 deg. F (which is below 100 deg C - and well below the 200-400°C mentioned above.)
Evaporative distillation units tend to be slightly higher - perhaps 105-120°C. Again, the temperatures are on the low side to cause the chemical conversions that some incinerators can cause.

Bump- FYI, Long Beach Cali VA Hospital was running, may still be running, a long-term AO study on Vets exposed. Might be worth rattling their chain to see if any helpful info can be shaken loose.
Bump and PING!
Well, I did say I had the stupids ... <turning red>
Dyslexic's of the world, UNTIE!

Your point is well taken; ship's evaps didn't provide the optimum temprature for converting dioxins or furans, just that they did provide an environment which added to the amount of TCDD's.
There was also the problem with TCDD's that came from Sylvex (sp?) used to clean evaps, water lines, and potable water storage spaces.
Thanks!
Lord, yes it would.
Regrettably, whenever the VA is asked for numbers, they have refused to give them; something about the 'privacy' of their patients.
Yeah, right.
(Sorry, my cynicism is in overdrive, these days.)
New Harvard study states in conclusion:”The results of this systemic review suggest that dioxin exposure is associated with mortality from both IHD and all CVD, although more strongly with the former. However, it is not possible to determine the potential bias, if any, from confounding by other risk factors for CVD.”
Also, SCOTUS has apparently delayed until Dec. 22, 2008 it’s response to Blue Water Navy Writ of Certiori request.
DVA did issue final rule for ALS establishing presumption for all vets with 90 days service.
So there is in fact progress being made....
“there is in fact progress being made....”
Just as long as it’s in time.
And with the new administration coming in, that progress could very easily turn into an all-out retreat.
Crap.
Just a note-Yesterday in Portland, VA Chief Shinseki said he will rule in 60 days on IOM {July 24, 2009 release date}study which showed sufficient evidence of an association between AO and Parkinson’s Disease as well as Heart Disease.
