there's still that insistent judgment that the Mormons = The Church of JESUS CHRIST of Latter Day Saints = are NOT Christian....
In "Dominus Iesus" the Pope states; "the Second Vatican Council, in considering the customs, precepts, and teachings of the other religions, teaches that although differing in many ways from her own teaching, these nevertheless often reflect a ray of that truth which enlightens all men.23 ....Nevertheless, God, who desires to call all peoples to himself in Christ and to communicate to them the fullness of his revelation and love, does not fail to make himself present in many ways, not only to individuals, but also to entire peoples through their spiritual riches, of which their religions are the main and essential expression even when they contain gaps, insufficiencies and errors'.27 Therefore, the sacred books of other religions, which in actual fact direct and nourish the existence of their followers, receive from the mystery of Christ the elements of goodness and grace which they contain. "
(and The Catholic Church is not the only one that believes the same about their own church...most all do.)
very good. However, he goes on:
"On the other hand, the ecclesial communities which have not preserved the valid Episcopate and the genuine and integral substance of the Eucharistic mystery,61 are not Churches in the proper sense;"
Excerpt from the Mormon Creed -
"We bear testimony...that Jesus is the Living Christ, the immortal Son of God. He is the great King Immanuel, who stands today on the right hand of His Father. He is the light, the life, and the hope of the world. His way is the path that leads to happiness in this life and eternal life in the world to come. God be thanked for the matchless gift of His divine Son."
And yet people still loudly, and pompously, declare they are NOT Christians -(They are not "Protestant", in that the church was not formed as a 'protest' to the Catholic Church - but they ARE Christians, in that they believe in Jesus the Christ, per the statement above in bold) Why so insistent? Why so certain? Who speaks for God?
Man can speak ABOUT God. Man can teach about God. But can man speak FOR God?)
Sigh... I don't think so. I think, to take it right out of "Dominus Iesus" itself: "God bestows it in ways known to himself.
I believe God decides, God knows His own - and no man can judge.
In His name....
- 17
- Jesus said to him in reply, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood 12 has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father.
- 18
- And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, 13 and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it.
- 19
- I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. 14 Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven."
