But the bundling of too many functions into the OS takes up a considerable portion of the computer memory and causes unexpected hitches

Finally MS is not going to get away with stealing other companys software and embeding them in to their operating system, to put that competitor out of business. A little too greedy there Bill. Pay back is sweet!!!!

First Law of Business: If you make a product your customers don’t want, they won’t buy it.

I just bought a Dell Laptop for my wife with Vista and so far haven’t had any problems linking it up with my other computer’s XP network. It isn’t as fast as I’d like it to be,but for my wife,it’ll suit her just fine.I can always add another gig of ram later on,once she learns how to use it for more things. One problem I’ve been having is with the Gears of War for PC[Microsoft product] on my computer.I got a long ways with it only to all of a sudden lose my save games and having to start from the begining.Just trying to install it and get it to work took me all afternoon and most of the night.I checked out the chat rooms and found out everyone else going through the same and other headaches.Microsoft acts like they can put out any crappy product and then have the gall to charge you for assistance with someone with a foreign accent.

Well, did you know that not long after the release of Vista they announced their plans to create the next version of Windows. Formerly codenamed Blackcomb, now internally called Windows 7, it will officially be titled Windows Client OS. It is planned to be released in 2010, maybe sooner (and too soon) if they feel they could stand to swallow up some more of your money before then.

As John Dvorak has pointed out, games and their insatiable demand for high-end components are a bigger driver of PC and OS sales than many are willing to acknowledge.

DX10 will only run on Vista (MS are too clever by half) and many games either require DX10 or are optimized for DX10.

Gotta show this to Hubby. He needs more convincing VISTA sucks. And he’s in IT (continuity tests) over a big corporate network.

Horrors with Vista is the reason why I won’t buy a new PC. I wonder if the Dells, Compaq’s Hp’s, and Intels have taken notice yet?

Bought a new Gateway laptop with Vista a few months ago. Out of the box I erased the drive and installed XP Pro. The only solution. I have a very good friend that, at the time I retired, went to work for Microsoft. Obviously quite a bit younger. We stay in touch but FAIAP MS products are off the discussion agenda. We want to stay friends.

I have Vista and love it. It works great on my laptop (1.8 gig duel-core with 2 gig memory). In fact, in most cases, it's much faster than my 3 gig celeron running XP (1 gig memory) desktop and my 2.8 gig desktop running XP.

Instead of whining about how Vista dosn't run on old equipment, maybe folks should just upgrade to new equipment.

Before you ask, I bought my first PC in 1979 (a SWTPC 6800 with 20k of memory), so, I do know a little about computers. Also before you ask, the 3 gig celeron is the 4rd computer i have run out of the cabinet it is in. It is using an old harddisk out of a laptop, old floppy drives (including a 5.25 drive) and a 5 year old CD. I know something about using old parts too. I also know when it's time to move on.

I’ve only used Vista once, when setting up the wireless on a friend’s laptop. To call it an improvement on XP is fraud.
