Store bought fruitcake is an abomination. The best of traditional fruitcake recipes cant be marketed commercially, because they are cooked with various types of booze.

Compare a real rum ball fresh out of the oven with a simulacrum from a coffee shop, and you get the idea.

You can freeze it, but I don’t know if you need to. I just fed one to the crows that had been sitting around for a year. Hadn’t molded and appeared to be just fine.

Surplus fruitcakes should be sent to the Navy. I understand they have developed a process that can recycle them into anchors.

They have to be careful though. Too much fruitcake and they can’t get the things off the bottom.

The Assumption Abbey fruitcakes are the best I’ve ever had, bar none.

Check them out here:

Leftovers can be frozen, and thawed in the fridge later. I like to eat a slice with Philly cream cheese.

Fruitcake. Yeah, it always starts out with fruitcake. "I can quit anytime." Next thing you know you're shooting PURE HEROIN THROUGH THE EYEBALL AND INTO THE BRAIN!

Fruitcake.

Yeah, I think you can freeze it...

Yes you can freeze the fruit cake.
Cut it into individual pieces, that way you do not have to thaw the whole thing before cutting.
Just make sure you wrap it tightly in plastic wrap.
I cut individual pieces wrap them separately and put the whole bunch in a plastic bag. That way I just take what I want.
I am very happy tonight to know there is someone else that like fruit cake.

Wrap it in a cloth soaked with brandy or rum and just let it sit in the tin/container. It tastes way better. My mother would do that & just cut a slice when she wanted one.

lol...

btw....soaking them in brandy or cheap cognac or whiskey or rum will let one keep them on a cool dry shelf for months...no kidding

I always liked fruitcake as a kid;but, when I got married, that was the end of it. My wife-and later my kids-hated it,and wouldn’t have it in the house.

Now that I’m alone, I’m ALLOWED to try things I like, dammit ! I’m ALLOWED !!

(Sorry. I just get carried away when in the throes of fruit cake ecstasy...)

Mmmm...If I were to get one of those little bottles of brandy or rum, turn the cake upside down, and drizzle this impromptu hard sauce on the cake,I wonder if the cake would soak it up-or just get mushy ???
