“He wrote this completely superfluous bill long after the President put a $50M bounty on bin Laden’s head open to all comers, not just Blackwater.”

Ron Paul brought up the issue of a Letter of Marque on September 25 2001. He also made it aware as a tool for the GWB on the 11th of Oct., when GW was making his speech about the reward and capture of Bin Laden in the total sum of 7 million dollars. The reward went to 25 and than 50 million in NOV.

And you're so modest, too.

You used to be pretty cool. I'd hate to think that the cult was re-programming you.

What a shame.

I'm still cool as hell, yo. Cooler than the other side of the pillow, in fact. And I'm not even a Paul person anyhoo. I like the same candidates that you do.

Why'd you ask if you knew the answer?
I didn't know which one it was, I had to Google it after you said you did not know.
I only knew it was either September 11th or Guy Fawkes Days because these are Paul's two big fundraising days when all the Truthers and molotov cocktail throwing anarchists gave to his campaign.

Sending in our entire military and dropping bunker busters and shock and awe (a form of terrorism, in my opinion)

What was the purpose of shock and awe? And which soldiers did I call terrorists? The people who order light shows like that to scare the shit out of civilian populations are heartless in my opinion....

Intially to destroy command and and control and air defences. I know it's not fair. Later to degrade military defences.

Your suggestion that our military was running a campaign of terror against the civilian population is obscene. In my view in no way representative of Freerepublic for whom you feel you speak. Typical of Paul supporters though.

US troops as persecutors, heard that form Paul himself too.

RON PAUL ACCUSED U.S. TROOPS OF WAR CRIMES IN DESERT STORM

American Values?

During the Iraq war, American troops were instructed to use specially equipped tanks to bulldoze the trenches that held Iraqi soldiers- Not a single American was hurt, so meager was the resistance. Thousands of Iraqis, teenagers coerced into the army by the dictator Hussein, were buried alive, while the unprecedented military tactic was hidden from the public through media censorship. Captain Benny Williams, who Led the charge was awarded the Silver Star for his role. Also hidden: the apparent fact that many of the rag-tag teenage soldiers were trying to surrender as they were entombed.

Ron Paul: US "military is mowing civilians down in the streets"
Ron Paul Survival Report

Somalian Quagmire

Just when you thought that our troops might come home from Somalia, Clinton sends in 400 commandos to murder the "warlord" Aidid, one of the tribal leaders in Somalia's civil war. Since it's illegal for us to murder foreign leaders, the actual purpose of these commandos has been denied. Since the arrival of these troops, the hostility toward the Americans has grown. More bloodshed is surely on the way. One day we had a kinder, gentler military feeding starving blacks. The next day, the military is mowing civilians

FYI, the majority of the troops would like to finish the mission and don't appreciate those with leftist views back home trying to speak for them. These folks over here are not quitters or cut-and-runners, despite whatever garbage the media back home may be spoonfeeding those who will take it.

And most have either enlisted or reupped since the war began.

Hey, aren’t you the one who used to have a bunch of cool parody graphics on your freeper page? I’m vaguely remembering arguing with you on drug war threads a long time ago.

“Again, I challenge you to find one of my post sympathetic to a Rhino, lib or Socialist stand on any issue.”

Who are you supporting in the prez race? If it’s anyone but Paul, Tancredo, or Hunter, you’re a socialist, and Tancredo is pushing the issue.

“In the mean time, try again explaining why the “Conservative” Paul - when asked about splitting the ticket with Socialist Kucinich did not answer “out of the question” rather than it was “premature”? “

Ever looked at Dr. Paul’s voting record? He has a near 100% conservative rating.
Why he answered that question in the way he did, I don’t know. Maybe to keep from offending his friend. Ever done something to keep from hurting a friend’s feelings?

Ron Paul brought up the issue of a Letter of Marque on September 25 2001.

So many misleading notions in one sentence.

(1) He introduced the bill October 11, after everyone in high places knew that the adminsitration was placing a bounty on bin Laden's head.

(2) Letters of marque and reprsial are completely useless and have no legal or practical utility, and have not had any legal or practical utility for 151 years.

(3) Letters of marque and reprisal are not bounties - the bounty that the President placed on bin Laden was a completely different and vastly more practical proposal than Ron Paul's.

He also made it aware as a tool for the GWB on the 11th of Oct.,

Was that supposed to be English?

I'm supporting Thompson, but I really like Paul on domestic issues and defend him quite a bit here on FR. Am I a socialist?

Misleading notions like the 50 million offer before RP’s L/of/M offer as you wanted nsmart to believe? Notice you didn’t argue the issue. No worries.

Now do a search for RP to the H/of/R on Sept 25th. You will find your answer.

Wideawake but incoherent?

Letters of Marque existed as a matter of international law when the Constitution was written. It was effectively outlawed by the mid-1850s. The US did not sign the Declaration of Paris of 1856 which outlawed Letters of Marque but it did invoke the Declaration during both the American Civil War and the Spanish American War.

Bottom line, Letters of Marque work only if all parties agree to them. Without such agreement, privateering is simply called piracy. No one has recognized Letters of Marque in one hundred and fifty years.

Yes, I did. I have a few up still. Unfortunately I lost my best one in a hard drive crash, which was Ted Kennedy, comic book cover style, as Swamp Thing coming out of the swamp with a bottle of Jack Daniels, and the tail of a car and a woman’s hand sticking out of the water behind him. It’s one of the few that never made it to the political parody sites, so it’s lost forever now, unless some FReeper out there happened to have saved it.

Well, I think he deserves to be laughed at. In today’s world, even some Freepers would indulge a little treason if it suits their desires. So execution seems a little drastic. And since he’s merely a fool encourage other fools and the dying al Qaeda, why shoot him when you can laugh at him. But like Jane Fonda, he surely is a traitor. And while he excuses America’s enemies, braver men and women than him are dying, if you hadn’t heard, so that he can spout his encouragement for the enemy.

On question never addressed is who would be stupid enough to act on an American Letter of Marque, knowing they would be acting outside the law, based on “American authority” recognized by no nation in the world. Blackwater, though it’s not really their thing, don’t be silly, they’re not stupid. Dog the bounty hunter or Hulk Hogan. Doubt it. Don Black tried it once, maybe he’d be available.

Misleading notions like the 50 million offer before RP’s L/of/M offer as you wanted nsmart to believe?

How many times must I correct your mistake?

I will spell it out in capital letters:

A LETTER OF MARQUE IS NOT A BOUNTY.

Notice you didn’t argue the issue.

Did you not read my post? I made three observations, none of which you addressed.

Now do a search for RP to the H/of/R on Sept 25th. You will find your answer.

Again, A LETTER OF MARQUE IS NOT A BOUNTY. Everyone knows that Ron Paul had letters of marque on the brain long before 9/11 happened.

You cannot shoehorn that into a notion that Ron Paul invented the concept of a bounty.

The federal government has placed bounties well before 9/25/01 - believe me. And it has placed numerous bounties on individuals without ever issuing a useless letter of marque - which again, is not a bounty.

Wideawake but incoherent?

No, incoherent would be statements like the following:

He also made it aware as a tool for the GWB on the 11th of Oct.,

If 76% is "near 100%" OK. I hope you're not a surveyor.
