A few thoughts:
1. Always follow the money. It is possible that Keene is being bought off. He may not even see the extent of it because it usually happens incrementally, like boiling a frog.
2. The Islamists have other ways of “getting to people” so look for possible sources of threats and intimidation
3. It is possible that Keene and others sincerely believe that given the billion or so Muslims out there, our best strategy is reaching out to the moderates in the bunch rather than taking on a billion people. I don’t know what Keene’s faith is, but this point of view is not uncommon among secular or “moderately Christian” Conservatives & Republicans. (By moderately Christian I mean those who belong to mainstream denominations that are dominated by liberals, such as the Methodist Bushes or Catholics in certain liberal dioceses.) My opinion is that those who are not orthodoxly Christian fail to take orthodox Islam at its word.
Has anyone considered asking Keene about his participation in this event?
That would be a good next step.
