America didn't want another "Clinton type" so it chose Bush. Now it's going to want an "anti-Bush."
Today, people don't want an earnest evangelical who knows what he believes and leaves it at that.
Before George Allen left the Senate and the presidential race, people thought his Bush-like qualities would doom his candidacy. Sam Brownback has the same problem now.
If Southernness hurts Thompson it won't be because Northerners hate Southerners, but because they want a change from George W. Bush, and can't help hearing W when a politician drawls.
It's taahrred... (But LOL'd at it). :-)
Victimhood is one thing. Recognizing prejudice is another. Clearly people are prejudiced about a lot of things, and if you think there is no prejudice about people from the south, you are kidding yourself. The false association you make is that acknowledging it makes one a victim. It doesn't. Merely observant.
Clearly there is still some prejudice against black people, but some don't accept victimhood because they acknowledge it.
That’s what I figure, the Rino stampede is about to take flight.
Hvg second thoughts. Pls remove me from Fred Ping List. George P. denounced Americans last year from Mexico for being against last year’s Senate illegal immigration bill and he’s a big part of Fred’s campaign. Too big.
He is NOT a part of the campaign. He contributed and solicited money for Fred ON HIS OWN.
You’re off.
It was in the www.sptimes.com. George P. is working on the campaign. Maybe the liberal paper got it wrong?
George P. Bush, a nephew of President Bush, has contributed to the prospective presidential campaign of Fred Thompson and signed an e-mail asking friends and associates to do the same, The Politico has learned.
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0607/4309.html
Why didn’t you check www.sptimes.com? George P’s on the team. Can you prove he’s not on Fred’s team? When they call me, I’ll ask them myself.

Sounds good SW.
If I'm ever out that way, I'll be sure to stop by and render proper respect and homage to the CBF.

Of course there is--just as there is against people from the north.
The point is this need to play victim by making one's being the subject of someone else's prejudice more than it is--are there roving gangs of non-Southerners wandering around, burning down Southerners' homes? No--there are snide comments from non-Southerners, perhaps--just as there are PLENTY of such comments about Northerners, Easterners, whatever-ers.
This special pleading is what makes me laugh, along with the macho posturing that goes with it--"We southerners are superior to them damn Yankees...and we're hated for it, wahhhh!!!"
There's plenty of bashing of other folks to go around. It's when one pretends to be a victim when there is no victimhood that is embarassing.
Bush is not a Southerner. He is a blue blood Yankee from born in Connecticut.
If there’s no such thing as an anti-Southern bigotry, then why can’t a Southerner get on the Supreme Court?
I agree. The Hunter-bots bash anyone not locking in step with their candidate. My opinion is Hunter is a decent candidate, but unelectable
Not defending Bush, but I think WOT will be considered more his legacy that the amnesty issue.
I’m sorry. I was quoting Darlwolf and replying to him/her. I agree there is southern bigotry. Thats why I asked Darkwolf if he/she was from the south. I am and I know all about southern bigotry. I have expierienced it for years. I was just in a thread about Hillary Clinton and someone made a snide comment about sisters and brothers in Arkansas. I won’t mention names or details but you can imagine the nature of that comment. I really need to learn how to put my quotes in italics. LOL Sorry for the misunderstanding.
I’m sorry I didn’t get back to this thread yesterday. Its titled “We are being lied to about Fred” or something like that.
I think Fred will appeal to a lot of the old southern democrats, though. And most of the country. I believe he will be better at letting the country know who he is. GWB could never seem to get past the hostile media and let the folks know who he is. He let the liberals and media define him.
Oh, by the way, my DIL moved south and once a flaming liberal, she is now a proud conservative who never misses Rush. LOL I think our southern way of life rubbed off on her. She constantly argues with her family on the phone that the south is nothing like they think it is. One more thing, I don't think southerners feel like victims. I kind of feel sorry for northeast liberals who don't know how beautiful life can be because they never stop to smell the roses. They are always angry.
Exactly! Thanks for your post.
