Things haven't changed much since the days of WWII and the former Grand Mufti. These guys never found a Nazi they didn't like.

It's not well known, but the Nazis sowed their ideology in the ME during WW2. It really spread in Syria and Lebanon, which were French colonies, after France surrendered and the governor of Syria and Lebanon sided with Vichy instead of the allies. The result of the Nazi propaganda was the Ba'ath party.
Nazism never quite died. It just changed into a new suit.

That picture of the little boy breaks my heart. My 4 year old is probably going to have to do battle with these animmals and have this kid's death on his conscious.

And I was so hoping that our fathers and grandfathers generation had destroyed this odious political philosophy which now masqerades as a 'great religion' once and for all 60 years ago.
Gird thyselves for war because it's coming whether one wants it to or not.
It's gonna make the last one look like a walk in the park I fear.

Someone's got to say it. This style of salute was never unique to Nazis. I loaded the thread expecting to find evidence of Nazi symbolism. Sorry nice try.

That was my inital response, too. I guess that makes us both old.

Haj Amin al-Husseini eventually died in exile in 1974. He never returned to Jerusalem after his 1937 departure. His place as leader of the radical, nationalist Palestinian Arabs was taken by his nephew Mohammed Abdel-Raouf Arafat As Qudwa al-Hussaeini, better known as Yasser Arafat. In August 2002, Arafat gave an interview in which he referred to "our hero al-Husseini" as a symbol of Palestinian Arab resistance.

This is more frightening than the Nazis. We have far more than ONE Neville Chamberlin in power throughout Europe... and here as well.

From my link in post 12.
Not much symbolism but lots of history.
At the Nuremberg Trials, Eichmann's deputy Dieter Wisliceny (subsequently executed as a war criminal) testified:
The Mufti was one of the initiators of the systematic extermination of European Jewry and had been a collaborator and adviser of Eichmann and Himmler in the execution of this plan. ... He was one of Eichmann's best friends and had constantly incited him to accelerate the extermination measures. I heard him say, accompanied by Eichmann, he had visited incognito the gas chamber of Auschwitz.

Grand Mufti was the person I was trying to think of that started islam down the path to Nazism.
