"Apple claims its newest iMac, which features Intel’s new Core Duo processor, is twice as fast as its predecessor."

Us PC users have known that for years...LOL

you can get blades that size, or run microATX motherboards in really small chassis. much smaller than the G5 and cooler running to boot...

not possible since OSX uses DRM so you are forced to run on "Apple" hardware.

I'll put it this way: i put together a dual core Opteron based system w/ 2G of OCZ memory and 800Gb of SATA-II RAID for about $1299, in a really slick case.

It sings along happily w/ Fedora Core 4, and you *don't* pay a 20% performance penalty for running the Apple MACH microkernel underneath OSX.

As a long time (11 years now) user of Linux, I'll concede that it has it's uses. But most of those apps that run on Linux will work just fine on my Mac as well. It's all about the source...

I'll take Linux as a server any day. But, I'll administer it from my Mac.

Basically, if it runs a *nix OS, I'm pretty happy.

but there is such a thing as too much eye candy... that processor time to have cool menubars appear and disappear can be better spent on other tasks.
