He was one of those Americans that was bigger than life. He came at a time when we as a country needed POSTIVE influence. Yup he was the right man at the right time.

I wrote reply #
98 before I realized who you were. It's been a while since it got the introduction letter from Reaganghost about your movement. I read some of your essays and would like to offer my complements on the content. Concerning "The Pledge", I don't rush into pledges like that because I am a man of my word (most times) and I remember when I first listened to a Libertarian back in the late-80's/early 90's. He said all the right things and I was saying "right-on, right-on". I thought I had found my new party until they started talking about abortion and drug legalization and other things. Needless to say I dropped 'em like a hot potatoe, just as quickly as I picked them up. The Republican Party isn't perfect, but at least they are on the right side of issues I care most about. We just need more REAL Conservatives among them, and get rid of some of the lilly-livered-yellow-bellied ones.
I say that to say, I like what I have seen so far and please keep me on your ping list for future articles and ideas. I had a favorite saying to Freepers who were dogging George W. during the last Presidential Election and used it as my tagline for a while: "You'll never agree with ANYONE about everything, You'll never agree with a DemocRAT about ANYthing." Don't expect me (or anyone for that matter) to agree with you about everything, but I like what I've seen so far. Keep it up.
I have said here that there is probably no teaching the old dogs at the top right now any new tricks. The key to our success is to support Conservative Candidates at the Local and State levels who will eventually rise to the top as the new dogs who will know the new tricks when they get there. From what I can see, that's already happening. It certainly is happening in Ohio. Not necessarily in the big cities like Cleveland, the Liberal Mecca, where I live, but in the southern portion of the state and all the rural areas.
All the Best Wishes to you both!!

( What about the baby's "RIGHT TO CHOOSE"?????? I bet the baby would chose LIFE.)

The best person to vote into any office is the one who doesn't want the position to begin with and who, if elected, is willing to protect their own property while in office.
In doing so they protect your property as well as they protect their own. If they aren't willing to protect their own property than they aren't likely to protect yours and it will be legislated away.

Great reply.
There are a couple of things that I would like to repeat, not only for your benefit, but also for the benefit of anybody else who reads this or any of our threads. Being aware of the following should make it clearer to all that our Pledge is exactly what it says, a committment to restore the Constitution.
- "I thought I had found my new party.."
We are not trying to create a new political party. We believe the best opportunity to restore the Constitution is to reform the Republican Party. And in reforming the Republican Party, we want to convince other conservative third parties, including the Constitution Party and the Libertarians, to return and vote for Republicans, in particular the Republicans we recruit to form what we are going to call the Reagan Wing of the Republican Party. - "..they started talking about abortion and drug legalization.."
Like everybody else, we have some thoughts on these issues. Since the Constitution is silent on these issues, we believe these are issues that cannot be addressed by Congress or the Federal government, but are more properly referenced to the IXth and Xth Amendments. Our agenda is specifically to restore the Constitution. - We do have the intention of seeking at least one Constitutional amendment. We believe that term limits for members of Congress and for the Federal Judiciary are essential if we are to avoid the mistakes that allowed us to get into our present predicament.

Note to self, close the list, </ul>

Excellent Clarification. I haven't looked for a new party since I was almost hoodwinked by the Libertarians. Like you said in one of your essays, third parties only serve to elect DimocRATS. Perot gave us 8 years of Clintoon and Buchannan tried to give us at least 4 years of Gore. I believe the only chance Hellary has is if the Republican Party splinters and McCain runs third-party.
I beat my head against a wall (figuratively, of course) trying to talk to Freepers here who were disaffected by the Republicans in the last 2 elections. I told them then that the only way is to change the Republican Party. And the only way to do that is to absolutely destroy the DemocRAT Party. CRUSH...PULVERIZE!!! In other words, keep them out of power. And as Rush says, when they're out of power, they go crazy. Hopefully crazy enough to destroy themselves. Then and only then can a third-party gather enough steam to PUSH the old dogs of the current Republican Party to the right. You can't force-feed them new tricks, but we can make them REALLY want to learn them. Realistically, some of these old dogs will be here. It's so tough to defeat incumbents.
Back then I used the example of the train roaring down the tracks. When you first put on the brakes, you're still traveling in the same direction. The passengers see that and say, "Hey, I thought we changed Engineers...He's not doing his job...I'm not voting for them anymore." What they don't realize is it takes time to stop the damned thing, then you have to whip it in reverse. We'll sit still for a while too while our reverse steam gathers. Don't get worked up over that either. That analogy is still valid, in my opinion. The brakes ARE applied, but we haven't stopped yet. This is the biggest train in history.
Step one (as Perot would say) is to get rid of the middle of the road Republicans and replace them with some True Conservatives with some 'nads.
Patience is a virtue though in all of this. It took us a while to get here and it'll take us at least half as long to get back. Another of my favorite sayings: "There are an infinite number of ways to tear something down...Only a couple ways to build it up." While we plod along those couple of roads, we're being hit from an infinite number of directions.
Keep up the good work. Keep me pinged.
