For all who think God did this, why didn't he wait till they came to town?

---"Although the loss of lives is deeply saddening, this act of God destroyed a wicked city," stated Repent America director Michael Marcavage in a statement. "From 'Girls Gone Wild' to 'Southern Decadence,' New Orleans was a city that opened its doors wide open to the public celebration of sin. May it never be the same."---

Someone call the looney bin.

What did the oil rigs do to offend God???

The Decadence event was supposed to happen yesterday.

Note how the article uses the word 'crackpot' so lovingly.

I know the devastation from Katrina is horrible...but if there's one plus out of anything here, it stopped this celebration of evil.

Makes as much sense as the global warming nuts. Both sides have kooks.

Isn't it funny that they are in the halls of Government screaming to be treated equal and claiming they are "just like everybody else" yet this festival is called the "Southern Decadence?"

I don't know if He allowed it for that or not. But God often gives a warning and allows people time to repent.

Dangit, I get so mad when I hear about "God did it to punish". Does God deal cancer only to bad people who need a wake-up call? No. Shame on people for assigning such a simplistic and blasphemous reasons on God's mind-- who are they to presume?

As I said, I don't know whether God allowed it for that reason or not. You may be right that is a simplistic answer, in that God may have had lots of reasons and that may or may not have been one.

But God is clearly on record for using nature to perform such acts. Noah's flood, Sodom, Gemorrah, Ninevah (repented), Egypt, Babylon, etc.

Psalms 148:8 Fire, and hail; snow, and vapours; stormy wind fulfilling his word:

Jonah 1:4 But the LORD sent out a great wind into the sea, and there was a mighty tempest in the sea, so that the ship was like to be broken.

Job 37:13 He causeth it to come, whether for correction, or for his land, or for mercy.

BIBLICAL EXAMPLES. Scripture contains many examples of God controlling the weather and using it to direct people and nations...

Genesis 6:5-9:19 (Earth destroyed by flood, people and animals killed)
Exodus 9:23-29 (hail and fire from heaven on Egypt)
Joshua 10:11 (hail on the Amorites, etc.)
I Samuel 7:10 (thunder disperses the Philistines)
Nahum 1:3 (judgment with whirlwind and drought)
Leviticus 26:19-20 (rainless sky, parched earth)
Deuteronomy 11:13-15 (rain as reward for obedience)
Deuteronomy 28:24 (drought punishment)
I Samuel 12:18 (thunder and rain to get people's attention)
II Samuel 21:1 (drought and famine)
I Kings 8:35-36 (good weather reward)
I Kings 16:30-18:45 (rain withheld and given)
Hosea 13:15 (dry weather)
Amos 4:7 (rain given and withheld from certain cities)
Jonah 1:4,10-15 (man punished and redirected by sea storm)
Zechariah 14:17 (rain withheld as judgment)
Revelation 16:21 (hailstone punishment)

The above is from this site www.Christiananswer.net

As I said on a previous thread, Mr. Marcavage should go perform a physically impossible sex act on himself.

I invite you to go do the same thing I suggested that the loony in this article do to himself.

Yup. Clearly we didn't repent after he warned us with the 9/11 attacks, so he had to send a hurricane to New Orleans. Mississippi and Alabama were just "collatoral damage."

Dunno; but I will venture a guess that this city famous for Casinos, gambling, widespread prostitution, rampant drugs, booze, and homosexual galas might have offended Him.

I think the use of the words "God did it" and "punishment" is why you have a problem with this thought. I think of it as CONSEQUENCES rather than punishment. God doesn't 'punish' anyone for jumping off a cliff, but they do suffer the consequences of their actions. Perhaps a city known internationally for its rampant sins of every sort has met with 'consequences' of sin, rather than punishment.

But I do agree with you that nobody can know the mind of God........ though it's certainly ok to speculate based on Biblical precedent, in order to perhaps prevent more 'consequences' for sin.
