Anyone going to see The Great Raid this weekend.
A very similar event happen with General Singlaub, who was involved in the first SOG operations, rescueing Allied POW's from a Japanese prison camp on Hainan Island. Actually the operation his group did was even more amazing then the Ghost Soldiers, he and his over-whelmingly outnumbered group, parachuted into a field next to the POW compound in the middle of the day, and convinced the Japanese military unit to surrender."
I had the honor of meeting the general at the last couple CPAC conferences.
I found out later he was almost sacked by Carter for telling him that it would be a mistake to pull the troops out of S.Korea. He went up a couple more notches in my book for that.
