By the way, it might interest you to know there is no crime involved in calling to verify the validity of checks. I think the only thing speed_addiction's parole office would find amusing is that someone would suggest this would cause problems for him.

You forgot one other little factoid. That the checks were actually issued by a real credit union. Now, maybe a decade ago, they decided to start a credit union-- JUST so as to set up this whole scam. That's the ticket!
No, I must be lying about the checks being issued (but whatever you do, DO NOT CALL TO CHECK ON IT YOURSELF. Just work with assumptions).
My eyesight is very poor and I can't make out the numbers. If you will give me the numbers you used, I'll be happy to call.
