w,
That's crap. There already are legal mechanisms to come to the US.
If someone doesn't have the job skills, language skills, or financial resources to do it that way, OR is not a student or refugee according to the US govt, then tough. Stay home and make your own country a better place.
THAT's the difference: legal immigration vs illegal immigration.
Make it so their is no reason for illegals to come here. No jobs, no medical care, no education, no driving. Sure let them work here legally, but they must pay taxes, and social security like the rest of us, even if they are unable to collect.
This program allows foreign citizens who are proud of their country's heritage to live the american dream.
Know what? If you're that proud of the mighty and distinguished history of Guatemala, keep on living there. I'd rather give that spot to the Christian family from Pakistan who realize that Pakistan sucks, and their fondest dream is to live in America and become Patriotic Americans standing with us shoulder to shoulder with no foreign loyalties.

We could wall off the southern border as Israel is doing. Its not for a lack of money that our congress-criters are ignoring the problem.
Anchor babies would be a difficult sub-issue, but it needs to be addressed.
Just in the interest of free exchange of ideas (not suggesting you support the issue); What kind of argument could a pro illegal alien supporter make for an anchor baby?

I think, and I don't know much about this, that the Constitution requires that anyone born on American soil be automatically an American citizen. Maybe this present gaming of the system was not the intent of the writers of the Consititution.

Oh, I'm sure you're right. I'll dig around for the exact wording, I've been meaning to do that, and post if it's compelling.

Someone on talk radio, I think on the CoastToCoast [former Art Bell Show] show came out strong for cutting off immigration altogether and for a decade. It would take at least that long to clear up the problems, IMHO, and maybe twenty years would be more effective. One thing for sure, there is no shortage of people at any skill level in this country at this time.
Spending some time getting clear on the legal aspects would be time well spent since this issue is up and coming and we need to be armed with the truth sometime soon.
